is it really hard to add memory to a laptop? does anyone have any tutorials with pictures on how to do it with a laptop? I can do it with a desktop no sweat but never tried anything with a laptop before. I wanna get a 9300 but dont wanna pay 150 for another 512 megs of ram.

There's a little panel on the bottom of the laptop that has 2 screws in it. You take out the screws, plung in the RAM, and that's it!! I don't have any pictures, but your manule will have some. It's very easy, you'll be fine :)

off the top of their head does anyone know how many DIMM slots the 9300 has? and if the initial config has 2X 256 or 1X 512? I can find 512 of Kingmax for 63 bucks, compared to the 150 that dell would charge me, is this a good deal?

the vast majority of notebooks have 2 memory slots. i've never heard of a notebook having more than 2 but maybe some of those boutigue rigs do? some notebooks, usually the smaller ones, have 1 open slot, the other stick is hardwired to the motherboard. the 9300 has 2.

the initial config depends on what you bought; when you bought your 9300, you told dell exactly the amount of RAM you wanted and the configuration you wanted it in; it's in your order information

if you want to know if a specific stick of RAM is a good deal, compare prices to other online stores... crucial, newegg, zipzoomfly, etc.

so basically the only difficulty is taking it out and putting it back in at an angle. does anyone know off the top of their head if dell gives you 2X 256 or 1X 512 in the initial configuration of the 9300?

like drumfu said, it depends on what you tell Dell. Personally, i got 2 x 256mb.

From what I can see on their website, the only option is 2 Dimms.

Will they change that if you call up and make a special request? I can't see any way to order a single DIMM for the 9300.

seems like it would be cheaper just to have them do it, unless Newegg can give me a single 1gb dimm for cheaper than Dell's upgrade from 512 to 1gb.
