I just ordered a Dell xps laptop and it is supposed to come with NVIDIA GeForce GT540M 2GB graphics with Optimus TV Tuner.
On my Dell Studio XPS Tower model, I have a real TV digital cable hooked up to the back of the tower. That way I can watch TV in real time using Windows Media Player. Does the TV Tuner Card that comes with the new laptop I ordered allow me to do the same thing? Or, is it simply a port to hook my laptop to a real TV. That is not what I want. I am assuming that since it says TV Tuner I'll be able to hook my digital coaxial cable to the laptop. Am I correct?

not sure if it will come with your laptop or not, maybe someone else can confirm

what i received from dell when purchasing the tv tuner after the fact is this (found in the attached thumbnail)

    1 R459N Assembly,Cable,Input/Output,MCX-F-TYPE,1010 <- just a note this is a male screw on F-Type Coax Connector

a quick google i found this if you can't get it from dell R459N - Coaxial TV Tuner Cable for Dell

i believe they can also be found on ebay

It is a tuner so yes, you can watch TV in real time. It's supposed to come with a digital antenna and a coax adapter so you can hook up to cable or receive over the air broadcast.

Mine was missing the coax connector so I bought one cheap off of ebay (instead of dealing with Dell "support").

Are alternate TV Antennaes available? The one from Dell is pretty small...I have to move it around a lot to get certain stations. I asked someone at Radio Shack and he said he did not have anything that would fit my XPS Laptop.
