Dell is really starting to get on my nerves. MY 1520 arrived today with a dead lcd screen. I am very upset and wish dell would get their quality problems fixed. They are sending me one that will take 8 days to get here.

WEarning first thing you do when you get the box is turn the comp on with and with out the cables and make sure that the screen can get brighter and darker.

I am pretty sure mine came with a bad inverter but i refuse to have only an inverter installed when the computer is brand new and dead right out of the box.

Please post on this thread if your 1520 has problems when it arrives at your house.

Atleast india got a replacement sent with no arguments.

I will. I think having a dead 1520 sitting next to me is worse then still waiting for it to arrive in the first place.

Did you try connecting it to an external monitor? If it's the inverter it should still display video.

Lol I tried but it wouldnt display that either. BUT I know it was the inverter because when you put the notebook in diagnostics mode it would make an extreme racket and say inverter cable not detected.

The screen was visible when a bright flashlit was shined on it but thats it.

I just hope my problem was just a fluke .

if it didnt work on the external monitor, how does that point to a bad LCD inverter?

That had to have happened during the shipping process. I'm pretty sure they test every item that goes out of that building.

BEcause the inverter is what supplies the power to the lcd screens florecent light. The computers diagnostic mode stated it was the problem.

Also The screen was on but extremely dark and only readable with a very bright lcd flashlight.

This sucks because it was basically dead right out of the box.

There is no way this happened during the shipping phase. The tech had me reseat everything.

someone asked if you hooked up an external monitor, you said you did, and it did the same thing.

logical conclusion, if i understand your posts right means its not the inverter. did i miss something?

Unless the mmotherboard is screwed up wich means very bad things for this notebook line. I hope thats not the case I dont want another optiplex gx 270 and gx280 problem on my hands.

Remember the main problem is that the florescent light for the lcd panel is not coming on. If the inverter is bad then the light will not turn on. Also The notebook itself was coming up with an inverter cable not detected error.

Maybe this is connected to the lcd panels being back ordered.

you did hook an external monitor up right? if you did, it has nothing to do with the LCD system in the laptop. (as long as the ext didnt work also)

The external monitor did not work.

But that might be a seperate problem. The MAIN problem is that the lcd panel was on but extremely hard to read due to the light not being on behind the lcd panel.

The tech told me to hold the fn key down and power the notebook on then came the loud beeping . If I angled my head just right and shined a flashlight at the screen I was able to read the very dark screen wich had the inverter message.

I am 99 percent positive that its the inverter. The inverter going bad would cause the light to not come on .

It doesnt matter though. The main thing is that my laptop did not work right out of the box and it was not caused by shipping since the tech had me take off the keyboard and plates of the laptop and reseat everything.

Sorry to hear about this problem and good luck to having it quickly resolved. I rarely ask for compensation for any problems, but I think it is deserved in your situation and it should automatically be offerred and not have to be asked for. Good luck again.

I kept hearing sharp buzzing sound from the left side of the computer. And thanks to the Creative EP630 headphone, which picks up every bit of it and amplifies it, the sound is just unbearable. I am calling dell support, they doesnt seem to have a direct solution and told me that they will call me back.

The tech made you take the laptop apart? doesn't sound right at all.
