    unfixable microphone problem dell inspiron 6400

    here's one nobody has been able to fix. This is a dell inspiron 6400...

    If you want to use your dell as a karaoke machine, that is, play music out of your speakers and hear your voice through the mike it's not possible. On the old dells you could just go into the regedit and find the DisableMic key and set it at 00. This key doesn't even exist in the new 6400. My understanding is dell set it up this way so you would not have feedback on the built in speakers but instead they took the option away of having a mic output and a music output together.

    If anyone has a fix for this, let me know becuase I have spent untold hours trying to solve it....thanks

    The OS is win xp home edition, version 2002, service pack 2 and the sound driver is Legacy & simgaTel high def audio

    Hey, can you also help with vista? I'm using the audacity program to record, but the mic won't work, though the headphone does. I tried using 2 different mics, and they still didn't work.
