I have a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop, but the issue also applies to notebooks:

How do you go about finding information about newer drivers and updates? Dell offers a list of them, but its only useful if I reformat and need all files.
    Example: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=EN#

It'd be a pain to look at every file to look at the release date to guess whether I need to update it. Plus I don't remember when exactly it was purchased or when I already did some driver updates.

Plug your service tag into Dell's website and you should get the latest drivers for your machine.
