hello there, I was looking to buy a Inspiron 1720 and was wondering if these upgrades would be not only easy to install, but compatable with the rest oft he system.

A nice 2x2gb ram upgrade for a very affordable price (and its actauly 800mhz so it matches the processor, GG dell >.>)
*****This is 54.99$ after the mail in rebate.

A very well reputable manufacturer, Seagate, offering a nice, 7200rpm, 200gb, 16mb caching, 3gb/s hard drive for 130$

***yes, I realize I will need imaging software, i assume 50$ for that.

So, with my current laptop build price (about 1100$ after tax and shipping), this would end up being about 1350$ when all was said and done and would include:

    2.5ghz processor, 6mb caching, 800mhz
    4gb 800mhz RAM
    7200rpm, 16mb caching, 200gb hard drive
    1440x900 glossy finish screen
    256mb GeForce 8600m GT graphics
    Next-Gen wireless N card

and of course the various other things...

So would all this work? Is it a good build capable of running WoW rather well and maybe for average fps?

    Thanks for any looks!

    Two things:

1.) your processor may support an 800mghz system bus, but the motherboard might not. I think they are stuck at 667Mghz. Lame, but unless anyone can correct me, it may not be worth the upgrade. Although, that is SUPER cheap for 4gb, and 667 is normally like, 77 bucks on there right now. Good find. P.S., that ram running at lower FSB may give you better timings, so, then again, probably worth it.

2.) You are paying too much for that HDD. Get the 5400 rpm Samsung 320 Gb. I think its actually cheaper, and it was tested to be FASTER than many of the 7200 rpm battery drainers that are out there right now. More space, more speed, 20 bucks cheaper. Buy one for me while you are at it!
