My e1705 has the minimum sized (60 gb) hard drive because the upgrade is rediculously expensive on the Dell website. So if I buy a new 120 gb 7200 rpm drive from newegg.com, can anybody tell me how to install it? They only tell you how to insert a Dell drive (with cover on it) in the service manual- do I just take the cover off the old drive and put it on the new one and slide it in? Also, does anyone know the max. size? Thanks...

I believe you can use any 2.5" notebook SATA drive. Just take out your old drive and pop in the new drive. What do you mean by max size?

I just mean, can I throw the biggest 2.5" notebook SATA drive in or is there a maximum recommended size?

Assuming your E1705 HD is like my E1505 HD then several things to consider:
    1. There is a small metal and plastic "thingy" you need to transfer, old to new HD, 2 screws.
    2. There is no practical max size, WinXP can talk to HD's in the TerraBytes.
    3. MediaDirect, do you use MD? If so you'll need a MD 2.0 CD from Dell. AND you'll need to leave 1.4GB of unpartitioned space for MD to install on.
