    few questions:-
does dell sell rams if you want to upgrade your dell notebook? if yes, does it provide them at same price as on the customising page when one builds one's laptop?

if i want to upgrade my ram, which is currently at 1 Gb, should i contact dell or do it on my own? the prices displayed on the customisation page on the india website requires INR 3000(approx$70) whereas buying from outside would cost nearly the same or even more.

If you have 1GB now, you most likely have 2x512MB, to get 2GB you'd need to ditch what you have and get 2x1GB.

Keep that in mind when deciding how much to purchase. You can try selling your RAM, but I'm not really sure what the market would be - Dell doesn't sell laptops with less than 1GB these days.

They will not give you any credit towards the new RAM, but I'm sure they'd be happy to keep your RAM and re-sell it as refurbished. :)

I work with someone who has an E1505, it came with 2x512. He bought 2x1GB from Newegg (you'll have to find a local or online retailer), and he just sold the 2x512 on Ebay for whatever it fetched.

Dell upgrades are crazy $700 for 4 gigs of ram. Most of us on here know how to find bargains

What happens when you need warranty work done on your laptop that has upgraded ram? Say the screen needs replacing; when I send it to Dell, do I need to take "my" ram out?

If you can find it cheaper outside dell then do that, if not go for the best deal, even if it is dell. People in the US take for granted how easy it is to get stuff like this and are blind to the fact that for you it's not an easy click away.
