Does anybody else have a really loud, vibrating optical drive?

for me, on about 1/2 the cds I use the entire computer (1520) vibrates. I end up putting my finger on the drive door just to shut it up and dampen the vibration.

    I have a TSST Corp DVD+/-RW

Hey, could everybody owning a 1520 list their optical drive manufacturer and whether their drive vibrates on any cds?

    Thanks!

(I am thinking about calling dell up and demanding a drive replacement; I just had to get a hard drive one (it crashed), and i think i might do this at the same time)

I have a 1720... i noticed that some cds do vibrate more than the others.. i think this is because the cds were not being read well by the head... i suggest that you clean the cds... cause the newer ones were as silent as ever... let me know if that helps

just call dell tech support and ask for a new drive...
it's a customer replacable unit, probably will take you 10 seconds to replace it

yeah that was what i was thinking...but i wanted to see whether they had any others than TSST

--i'm hoping to get a brand that actually puts rubber shock absorberrs in (if you have ever taken apart a optical drive then you know)

i think why it is vibrating is because the disk isn't balanced (cheap cds)

i think i get that too when i get my hdd replaced :p

lol, mine shipped loose and couldn't be found by the laptop. I had to push on it a bit and turn the laptop off for a while. When I woke up it worked, but I did notice the horrible sound it makes when CD's are loaded in the drive. CS 1.6 nearly shakes the laptop off the table. I don't play it when anyone is in bed in case it'll wake them up.

Ask for a replacement drive... that sounds like a major problem to me.

    yeah replace...that's what i did...

i think the vibration actually killed my hard drive (it started clicking really loud when the cd drive was on, installing the sims 2)
