    is there anyway i can use the HDMI as a vid input? i recorded something on my DVR and would like to transfer it to my laptop to view later on.

    possible?

    All video ports on a laptop are output ports. You could simply transfer your video and play it from your laptop. ;)

    yeah.. that's the problem David. i need to transfer it somehow and in short of ripping apart the DVR (i don't think Time Warner would be too pleased) to get the HD out, i would like my 15 to be able to take video's in and use up some of the 320 gigs of space that i'm not using right now.

    Have you tried running a USB cable from the DVR to your notebook? Some models still have this function enabled. Another idea would be to use a Slingbox. Also, you could buy a USB tuner and run it into your notebook from the DVR using coaxial.
