I'm between vostro1000 and vostro1510. The noise levels are as follows:
    idle hdd dvd load
    vostro 1000 32 32 36 34
    vostro 1500 35 41 40 38

I want an (allmost) silent laptop. Wich one to choose?
    Thanks in advance...
    Jim

I'm not sure between those two, but the 1500 is about as quiet as they get. That is probably my favorite thing about it...nothing makes noise.

I believe the Vostro 1000 is basically a Inspiron 1501 with a black color scheme. That's what i've seen from the pictures. I own a Vostro 1500 and 1700 and they are both almost silent.

You can feel the fans blowing out exhaust air but it's nearly impossible to hear anything unless you put your ear right up to the fan.

yep all vostros and inspirons, except for new vostros, use the same ext cover except for the internal color scheme..
but the inspiron here has nothing to do ahahah i think....
all vostros and inspirons are really silent

No I was referring to the old Inspiron case. I believe that's what the Vostro 1000 uses.

Thank you guys for your advices. But if we have to choose between vostro 1000 and 1500 (no matter the money and the capabilities...) which one to choose, concerning I'm working in a very quiet enviroment...
