My wife already has a vostro 1500. I'm thinking about getting a vostro 1400, and I'm wondering if they use the same kind of batteries (so we could share our extra batteries), and if they use the exact same keyboard (I feel pretty good abou the one on the 1500)?

    Thanks!

I think the Vostro 1500 and 1700 share the same battery, but the 1400 is different. As for the keyboard, I believe those are the same between the 1500 and 1400 but different on the 1700.

    Thanks for the info -

Glad to hear they use the same keyboard. It's too bad they don't appear to share batteries - that would have been a pretty cool bonus - especially since dell seems to be raising the prices of their batteries.

Recently there was a fire on LG's battery factory which was a major supplier for the Dell (Cells made in Korea) and others. This is a temporary price rize. The bad thing is that Dell is going to seek for suppliers in China and probably will use cells made in China along with Cells made in Japan from Panasonic.

When I ordered my 1400 six months ago, the second battery costed $59 disregarding it being 6-cell or 9-cell. While for 1500 at the same period of time, 9-cell battery costed $40 than the 6-cell ($59 vs $99). This can be explained by the different battery models in these 2 laptops. It is a no brainer for me to get a 9-cell second battery. Now the same battery costs 5 times more.

My 6-cell battery is a Dell 6937 made by Sanyo. You can check that in the Control Panel/Power Options/Power Meter and click on the battery icon.
