no it wont work on the 1420. vostros and inspirons have different motherboards, but that is where there differences stop. everything else is the same.

that's strange... Both bios on vostro 1400 and inspiron 1420 are the same. they are all A00 on Dell's website. My 1420 has A01 already. Where is A02 and A03 Bios?

The same version number but not the same file. Perhaps the only difference is the splash screen. Nevertheless, you cannot cross flash the 2 bios files without hacking the installation file.

I see it (A04) posted today (October 24) on the Dell site.

Btw, I took delivery of my Vostro 1400 a couple of weeks ago and it was loaded with A0 2...and I couldnt find that BIOS on Dell's site  .

Has anyone using A03 for sometime?
    Any issues.
It will be nice to get notes on what has changed.

I still have the A00 that I got on 1400 when I got it in Aug.

I am always hesitated to update BIOS (If it is not broken, don't fix it). If you do have a problem such as the whining issue, then this may be solved by that. I am concern if this BIOS update would reduce the battery running time as the A06 in M1330.

Just wondering if anyone can post specifics regarding the BIOS update for 1400. Is it worth it or should we stick with A00? What has changed?

Thanks for any and all information.

Can you go back to older bios if you see some issue going to A03?
I don't know of any issues running A00 but somtime ignorance is bliss

no problem to go back A00, but A03 seems to get my CPU cooler: T7500 idle: core 1:28C; core 2:25C; CPU:28C; HD:33C (amb:23.8c)
