here is the previous thread I posted: link
now I received the replacement (it came in really fast, complained on monday,
replacement came in on friday), I thought maybe someone would be
interested to see the difference between these three screens (one wxga, two
    wxga+).

Here is what I found: the replacement has a LG Philips wxga+ screen on it, it
has little graininess compared to CPT wxga, but totally acceptable, it also
has the best contrast, brightness, color, viewing angle, light leak among the
three. Note, graininess is gone when viewing from an angle, this is the same
case for AUO wxga+ screen BUT AUO screen would require a much larger
angle than LG Philips to make the graininess disappear .

I will return the ones with CPT wxga and AUO wxga+, reason is CPT wxga
has a light leak situation on it, and the contrast is not good (grayish), and the
AUO wxga+ has a terrible graininess issue, the contrast is better than CPT
wxga, viewing angle is the worst, and very dark even at max brightness
(compared to the other two), color is the worst, light leak is ok, better than
    CPT wxga.

So, here are the pics I took, it should give you a good idea why I am
keeping the vostro 1500 with LG Philips screen.

If you happen to have a AUO screen, I say get a replacement, do a side by
side comparison then decide which one to keep. I personally think auo wxga+
screen worth a $50 downgrade from the standard wxga.

So the LG Philips looks better? Correct me if I'm wrong. My Vostro 1500 also came with a LG Philips (15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD display with TrueLife) and it had a back light bleed on the bottom part of the LCD panel...just like the CPT WGA screen, except it's 40 times worse. Is there any way you can tell if the screen is wxga from wxga+? I just sent my laptop back into repair and I want to know what type of LCD panel they replace it with.

the + sign means resolution 1440x900, I guess yours is wxga (1280x800). My wxga (CPT) has back light bleed problem too, you can see from the first picture.
I would ask Dell for a replacement if I were you, this way, you can do a side-by-side comparison yourself.

What caught my attention was the last pic compared to the second to last.
My LCD's black color looks washed out/inverted from the side angle( i thought this was normal). I really want to go to a local computer store now and see the differences between lcds for myself.

i have the cpt on my 1500 imo mine has great color the blacks are a bit grey but the light bleed is worse than yours in the top pic.. its really bad.. they are sending me a replacement and im really hoping i get the lg screen i think. even it it has a touch of bleed it seems to be the best overall.. i just wish i knew what i was getting before it gets here.. if i get a auo ill def be sending both back for either another or a refund.. i will not accept the auo..

I had a samsung replacement for my vostro 1500 and it's way better than my original lg panel. The light leakage at the bottom isn't as bad and the viewing angle from the bottom is a little better, so I like. It's also definitely way better than my Chi Mei on my 1400.

I have the AU xga+ matte on my 14.1" D630 -- no problems. I have the xga+ glossy on my Vostro 1500 (LG) -- again, no problems. :)

I just placed my order for a Vostro 1400 yesterday and opted to go with the Smart Value package where the only option was the XGA+ LCD with TrueLife (for $50 extra, I sure got a lot...more ram, "better" LCD, bigger HD, Better battery, DVD burner, probally some other thigns I can't think of at the moment).

Anyways, would it be worth sending them an e-mail telling them not to give me an AUO brand LCD or should I even worry about it (since it seems they may have stopped using that brand anyways).

but first thanks for the pictures :D helps alot

'm planning on ordering a Vostro 1500 today... my bday so its going to be my present but i may wait a few days now

I was going to go with the WXGA+, I am in japan and was wondoring if the same issue is popping up internationally not just in the States. Also how do I figure out the make of the screen? I thought i might check my toshiba VX 570LS's screen.

    Thanks

Sry i should post specs for vostro 1500 in japan are different

    C2D T7100 processor
    1GB ram
