Ok I have a major dilemma and dont know what to do...
I need to buy one of these laptops but I need help choosing:
1)Vostro 1500 $1777CDN
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition, SP2, English
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel Web Camera
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 Dimm
160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive, without Roxio Creator
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8600M GT
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
High Definition Audio 2.0
2)Inspiron 1520 $1797CDN
Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 (4MB cache/2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
Ruby Red Color with Microsatin Finish
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife
Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 Dimm
160G 7200RPM SATA HDD
256MB NVIDIA ®GeForce8600M GT
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
The main differences are that the 1520 has the quicker hard drive while the vostro runs in xp. I really like xp and the laptop will run quicker in it compared to vista, but the loss of a quick hard drive will hurt load times (a tad) and some games may not run as quick. Any suggestions? Has anyone in Canada been able to buy an inspiron 1520 with xp instead of vista?
and btw...the $20 price difference is negligable haha

Ring Dell and say you'll take the Vostro with the specs of the Inspiron you have quoted there, but with XP instead. They should do that deal for the same price, less if you're good at haggling.
Hopefully XP is still available at christmas time, otherwise I'll have to get a copy of Pro x64 from uni when I get my Vostro 1500. -

lmao good old dell:
I just made the same setup at the vostro 1500, but started with a different base one (called "power and versitility" I think) and saved myself $200...but it seems vostros are hard to come by nowadays (shipping wise) so Ill just hold off ordering for now and see what happens.
Follow up question: Will that setup be good enough to play most games at a high framerate? -
how were u able to configure it with XP in canada, i only see vista home basic and vista business
EDIT: oh you were talking about vostro 1500, sorry to burst in but is there any way to configure 1400 with XP -

Get the Inspiron, because you can use the -$300 coupon.

i think inspiron with higher hard speed should be better in performance and so on. but vostro may have better look .
windows vista in the inspiron is not a disaster! u can change it with a xp windows !
So in my opinion go for 1520 -

And Im definitely going to get the vostro, because I found a way to configure it where it's $200 cheaper than the two systems at the top of this thread. I know not having the quick hard drive will make it run a tad slower, but I dont need game settings on full all the time and 2gb of ram will go much further in xp than vista. As well, I just like the vostro build, from what Ive heard its supposedly of "better quality" and not made of cheap plastic. Plus hardly any bloatware!
vostro 1500 and inspiron 1520 question
