    vostro 1500 external monitor problems

    not sure if this is connected to issues i was having a few months ago-see thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2604200#post2604200

    dell still hasn't resolved the above, 4 months later. but now, all of a sudden, my external monitor (envision 7220) is not working with my vostro 1500. strange behaviors happen when the external is plugged in:

    mouse cursor is jittery and turns into a weird icon;
    external monitor shows nothing;
    Notebook Hardware Control software I installed based on Simpliest2007 advice in the above thread, freezes;
    computer freezes;
    media mode doesn't work right- all the time now.

    all is fine when external monitor is unplugged.

    yes, i tried the monitor on two other laptops and it works fine! also checked that my settings in vista are fine. one minute everything was OK, the next, all of the above symptoms.
    i ran extensive virus and ad/spyware scans as well.

    any thoughts/help very much appreciated. thank you...Laura
