What is the difference b/w these two. I am looking to buy a dell and customized each with the same settings and the 1500 is about $400 more than the M1530. Here is the setup I chose for the M1530:

    My Components
    SYSTEM COLOR: Tuxedo Black
    PROCESSOR: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows® Vista Ultimate Edition
LCD AND CAMERA Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera
MEMORY: 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
HARD DRIVE Size: 250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
    VIDEO CARD: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    WIRELESS CARDS: Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
BLUETOOTH OPTIONS: Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)
BATTERY OPTIONS: 9-cell Primary Battery and 9 -cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
SOUND OPTIONS: Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition

Also, is it worth the extra money to either have 2.6 GHZ or the Blu-Ray Disc stuff?

*I believe I can get a discount that is why

    M1530:
[+] 8600M GT GDDR3 [as opposed to DDR2 on the Vostro]
    [+] Fingerprint reader
[+] Faster processor [I think the Vostro can only have up to T7500?]
    [+] Thinner and lighter
    [+] Looks slick [subjective]
[+] HDMI [great if you'll get the Blu-ray drive]
    [-] No XP option
[-] Only WXGA -- no higher resolution screens available [yet]
[-] More expensive [although there are XPS coupons now]
[-] General uncertainty [lack of a review, unsure of any issues that might be present, etc.]

If you'll be doing processor-intensive stuff [like video editing], then you might want that extra processor punch. But if you're just a normal user or even a gamer, the T7700 should already be overkill, IMO.

Blu-ray, meh. Depends on your HD format preference I guess. At least it will be useful with HDMI.

If you care about style, like the DDr3 graphics card and don't mind spending a little more... definitely go with the M1530...

Get the blu-ray! Movies will look stunning on the XPS m1530, since I think most blu-ray movies are in 720p format. The movies will cover most of your screen and be super clear! The 1280x800 should not be seen as a hindrance (except for gaming, but the 1530 only has a 8600m GT anyways)!

It was cheaper I believe because the m1530 included a 3 year warranty and the vostro I had to pay for like two seperate 3 year warranties which were pricy.

1280*800 is a low res for desktop use on a 15" IMO... My brother had an E1505 that's 1280*800 and I can't stand using it.

HD is both 1080p and 720p so the screen can at least play HD @720p. Standard DVD is 480p.

Uhh Blu-ray is up to 1080p, but can be viewed at 1080i/720p and still be "HD"
