I ordered the vostro 1500 2 days ago with the 8400m gs and the T5470. Today I found out that there is a sale on the inspiron 6400 that ends august 2nd with these specs for 599 also:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows XP Home
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife (glossy)
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
    120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
    Integrated Audio
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Yr Ltd Warranty, 1 Yr Mail-in Service, and 1 Yr Tech Support

I was wondering if I would be off cancelling the 1500 for the 6400 or if i should just stick it out with the 1500.

The vostro is newer and more attractive (IMO)

they have the same specs apart from:

The memory on vostro is at a frequency of 667mhz and the 6400 at 533mhz (667 is faster), The processor maybe 'slower' in the sense of less mhz on the vostro, but the new vostro processor has the new santa rosa technology which features a 800mhz front side bus (which is again better). On top of this, the ATI graphics card is not dedicated it is integrated the 8400gs is better.

I conclude the vostro to be better and therefore should be the notebook you choose

Stick with the 1500. The 6400 Inspirons' build quality is not even close to the current inspirons' and vostros'
Plus you have a more future proof notebook with the 1500

I just got my vostro 1400.

    Stick with Vostro.

    1. newer chip set with faster bus 800mhz
    2. Stronger casing.
    3. New model, better for resale value(if you ever need to sell it)
    4. Better look, IMHO.
    5. I would upgrade screen resolution, I notice higher contrast for 1440 x 900.
    6. Way better keyboard. I like this keyboard a lot. I use to have 640m. Keyboarded sucked on that machine.

    Good luck!!!

P.S. Don't forget to order bluetooth!!!! $20. Best upgrade IMHO!!!
