Hello,
I just got a vostro 1400 and noticed that each time i resume windows after going in the sleep mode, my screen would flash. this happens about two or three seconds after i enter my password, and although the flash is just for a second, it is getting quite annoying. i'm curious to know if this is normal, or if there is something wrong with my computer...thanks.

I have the same question. It happens to me to. wether its from sleep, hibernation, or turning it on, it flickers.
-
Latitude D630, same "issue", if it even is one. Must be a Vista thing.
-
With Vista now gone and XP on instead, the problem does not occur. -
Same thing happens to mine as well.
-
AFAIK it is Aero being enabled.
-
i don't have aero installed-i'm running vista home basic. so, i guess it is 'a vista thing.' my next question is then, does anybody know how to fix this?...
-
As said above. Its a vista thing,
The whole vista os access hardware within your machine in a different way to what xp used to. Its very annoying though, I get it on my home pc when pressing ctrl-alt-del to goto task manager. It seems to flick black then loads up the selecting screen. Its instant but doesnt seem very graceful if you know what i mean. -
I think it's not a Vista problem.
Just you have a special profile for screen (monitor) and whenever you are starting up/returning from hibernation or sleep mode - this profile is enabling.
you even can create a few profiles, ex. for gaming and office work.
try googling about this. -

anyone find a fix for this issue?

OK, So I have seem to fixed this problem. Since Dell has not released any new drivers... I downloaded the latest intel drivers (ver. 1544) from intel.com and installed them. This has fixed my issue of flicker AND the resolution being dropped to 1024x768.
You cannot simply run the installer as it will complain about it not intended for your machine since notebook manufactureres need to provide their own updates.
To cut the long story short:
* extact the contents of the new drivers, I used winrar
* uninstall your old intel drivers from device manager...
* reboot
* run the setup.exe from the extracted folder to install new drivers
* reboot
Now you can resume/hibernate all you want... you may see the occasional flicker but the resolution will not get messed up. -
I have vostro 1400 with 1440 x 900 screen with vista premium. Still flickers...
I feel ya. Over all great machine for price!!! -
