maybe there is something conflicting with the drivers from the different operating systems.

every operating system has its own partition, C: is configured as XP and D: is configured as vista so there is no conflict between OS

I had that before, I installed some application that turns my text into gangsta speech, but I had never used it and it wasn't open, but after I uninstalled it, It was back to normal.

Do you have any text conversion program or something?

Could be the video driver, definitly try updating to the latest driver.
When you look at Task Manager, are there any applications that are taking up a ton of CPU or memory? I've had issues in XP with svchost or spoolsv taking up huge amounts of CPU time. With spoolsv it's an issue with a print driver and you have to reinstall all your print drivers, with svchost it's usually the windows auto-update service crapping out, disable it.
