Ok, so my notebook has been working fine until a few days ago. I think this is a software problem, but when I try to open Network connections, it gives me a blank windows explorer window and shows nothing. When I try to go to properties for my wireless connection, it takes FOREVER and shows up like 4 minutes later. It says I don't have virus protection when my McAfee says its working perfectly, and it says windows defender is off and I can't turn it back on.

    What should I do?

imo sounds like maybe a driver or software conflict maybe or possibly a com port conflict hard to say without seeing it, some people have had issues with some virus software in vista.. i would try to uninstall it and then reinstall ... cant say it will work but worth a shot worst case try a full reinstall from the dell discs and see if that solves it.. if so then it was software..imo i cant stand mcafee.. so i will not comment on that..

Ok the problem is worse now. I can't play videos, I get a message saying I don't have access to the remote computer, even though it's off of this computer. It also says I am not connected to the internet when the internet works fine. Music files also don't work but the windows sounds work. Is this a virus??

its very possible, imo i would start with a fresh install from your dell cd's.. unless you know how to diagnose and trouble shoot.. this will eliminate pretty much everything but hardware..
