Well if you just ordered it you are within the 21 day grace period in which you can return your system for a refund. Then again, not all Samsung screens are grainy so check first. :)

Some SEC screens are worse than others, but I have yet to see one that was better than an LG. I have personally seen 6 SEC screens in both 1440 and 1680 and they were all grainy.

I am not certain that these SEC screens are even Samsung. I think that they are actually Seiko-Epson screens. Most Samsung LCD's that I know are actual Samsung are excellent LCD panels.

The SEC3350 and SEC3157 are both unacceptable in graininess and viewing angles from the ones that I have personally seen, the ones described here and many other sites.

Dell has been receiving complaints on these panels since last year and they continue sending them in their laptops while denying that there is a problem.

When you talk to customer service and they promise you a LG screen they are lying since they have absolutely no control of the production cell in Shanghai China where most of their notebooks are built for the North American market. If you do get one its just luck.. thats all.

And yes, I was promised a SEC last summer on a 1420. If you think the SEC is bad it was the good one last summer. They also were shipping AUO's and you want to know bad? The AUO I received looked like smeared vasoline on the screen. I also agree, the SEC have bad viewing angles and are dark.

Dell's insane policy of just lying to customers to say anything to get them off the phones or to just make a sale is really bad for their reputation. Like myself, after I was lied to about the screen I decided never again with dell. But I admit their good about replacements and refunds. I've seen one guy go through 5 replacements trying to get a good screen before he threw in the towel. I only gave dell one chance. More then that is a waste of everyones time.

Before I purchased my own LG, my hardware ID said SEC3350. I have that screen sitting here in a box and it is clearly labeled Samsung. So, SEC3350 = Samsung WSXGA+. The screen was hideous in was in my 1530. No comparson with the LG.

Lol. They lie if they say they can guarantee you a m1530 with an LG screen already in it. They have no control over what is actually put into it when it's made.

Well I've currently got a Samsung screen (SEC3258) in my 1720 and I have to put my foot down and say that this screen is pretty damn good even though many people judge samsung screens to be absolutely rubbish! yet my screen seems rather good, no grainyness, viewing is very good and only declines when viewing at a angle yet it is fine when you're directly looking at it...

I'm just saying that I've got a samsung screen which i believe is brilliant and I simply cannot imagine what it would be like when compared to an "LG" screen..

I have no doubt that you have a "good" Samsung. Almost all the bad Samsung screens pertain to the 15" ones, mainly WSXGA+.

Yup Yup... I had an Outlet M1330 CMO and wanted a screen replacement (even mentioned Screen brands to the CSR and the tech). Tech comes out with.... a CMO lol Didn't help a thing, actually hurt because now the tech introduced repair f-ups to the system (trim f'd up, panel not on right, etc etc).

    So I returned it.

I just don't see how Dell thinks this is good business practice.

The tech call was a complete waste of money on their part, and now they have an even more busted laptop going back to their Outlet that they're gonna have to "re-hawk" on someone.

    "Listen to thy consumer DELL!!!"

Exactly...there is no way for them to guarantee the specific manufactuerer of a part that goes into your computer. If you are unhappy with it, call tech support and get a screen replacement. Dell may have its faults and they certainly do try to help out the customer in many ways. If the screen is not to your liking, you can return the system, or simply get a replacement screen. BTW, if you have the DPN (dell part number) of the LG screen, you can call tech support, provide that number to them, and specifically ask they request that part. They will say that it is not under their control, blah blah blah, but if they place an order with that part number, you are assured of getting an LG.

They are trying to - they are slowly phasing out the Samsung screens...problem is that when you buy screens in bulk like Dell does and distributes them to over 10 different manufacturing sites across the world, some computers will inadvertently get the faulty screens. BTW, the stockpile must be liquidated somehow.

For future reference, if you are worried about technicians messing up your laptop in the process, you can request one of two things:

    1. POS service (parts -only service) if you are able to replace the screen yourself..
    2. Request a replacement of the LCD+bezel/hinge assemply, in which case they will send you a screen with the LCD and front plate bezels already mounted on them...

So will it mean that even if the techy comes to replace it, the amount of damage he can do is reduced.

That is the replacement kit number. It does not indicate the manufacturer of the LCD panel.

does this grainy screen problem only happen with the 1680x1050? Or does the 1440x900 suffer from this too? Because I have the 1440 and it seems fine.
