i had been think about getting the notebook in my signiture but when the m1530 was released i started having second thoughts. it has the better gpu and looks but is a little more expensive. if i can convince my dad to spend the extra money do u think that the xps is overall the better notebook to buy?

It depends. How often do you carry a computer around? How would the specifications and price change if you swapped notebooks? What do you do with your notebook (game)?

I thought the 1530 topped out at an 8600GT, which is what the 1720 has. Unless you are talking about the DDR2=>GDDR3 upgrade (I think the XPS has GDDR3).

Another thing to consider that might be worth the price is the notebook is smaller, lighter, and it has XPS tech support...and I know from experience XPS tech support is better than Inspiron tech support.

If thats the case, I would say go ahead and get the 1530. It has a much faster card. Also, you would be giving up the hi-res screen on your 1720 if you did decide to go for the 1530.

Is your 1720 still under the 21-30 days return window?
