hi, it's the first time for me buying a dell laptop, it's for a friend of mine.. He doesn't want to wait for the laptop to be shipped from dell and all that so he's looking for a preconfigured one, he's gonna be using it for internet surfing, play music or dvd's

    DELL INSPIRON E1505
Intel Pentium Core Duo Processor T2400
    15.4” Wide Screen WXGA Display
    512 MB DDR2 SDRAM at PC2-4200 533MHz
    80GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD burner ( DVD +/-RW)
BRAND NEW DELL NYLON CARRYING CASE
    1-Year warranty from dell
    6 Cell Primary Battery
integrated intel gfx card, he's NOT into gamming so it's all good
it's brand new machine with the transferable warrenty thingy..

price is $850, what do you think about the price?
can any1 tell me the difference between the WXGA screen and the one with the true life ? is the stock wxga looks like the one found in the B130 series? without the shiny screen and extra contrast? or is this the stock one that the e1505 come with and the true life is the same but with higher contrast? big deal ?

Ive never been able to actually compare the screens, but I have the WSXGA+ screen with truelife, and the truelife is just a glossy coating on the screen. Had there been an option for a matte WSXGA+ or even a matte WUXGA I would have taken it over the glossy screen. Im not saying that the truelife screen is bad, its just I had a 19" matte lcd screen with my old dimension 4700 desktop, and I never got reflections cast by the window light from it when its bright outside.

1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    100GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support

    $728 - $35 Coupon (Check EBAY) - 2% DPA = $679.14 + TAX

The total before taxes was actually $651 yesterday, before Dell raised the price. This configuration has everything yours has (except for the notebook bacpack) and then some; & it's still $180 cheaper.

With those specs, why not get the E1405?? The 15.4" screen is just wasting space.

Guess some people prefer the larger screen.

BTW, the base price in the link I posted is back down to $699.
    After $35 off & 2% DPA, the total is ~$650 + TAX.
This is for 2X the RAM & a larger HDD. I don't know about your friend, but to me, saving $200 on a better config. is def. worth the 7-day wait.

Thanks for input guys, much appreciated.
Iceman0214, were you just lucky to get a laptop with little scraches? I mean are those scratch & dent deals offer overall excelent condition laptops with some scraches or is't just by luck..

My freind is looking for a 15.4" screen, better for dvd's and stuff I guess, besides I've been readign alot of threads here about how terrible the screen is in those 14" laptops and screen leaking issues they have..

from my experience, and everything I've heard, around 75% of the scratch and dent arent noticeable at all, with mine, it took me about 20 minutes to find anything, and in all reality its nothing, if I had ordered it new, I probably wouldnt have even noticed it, as I wouldnt have been looking for it, and if I had, it wouldnt have been near enough for me to remotely consider sending it back over it,I tried to take pictures of it, but its so minor it wont show up with my 5 mp digital elph, I'd defiently get another scratch and dent, I confugured the exact system new, with the deals and coupons being offered at the time, and it came out to over 1400, and you get the same return policy and warranty options as ordering new, only caveat is you cant change anything in the system configuation, but dramatically lower prices, and quick delivery more than make up for that, you should check it out, one thing to take note of, when you see a system you want at the price you want, get it then, they dont stay long, and you can only keep it in your cart for 15 minutes, the flood of new dells on ebay are mostly outlet systems, I was going to get one with a few less options, but by the time I went to put it in my cart, it was gone, in the long run I'm glad it happend, cause I found what I have now a few hours later, just keep checking, the list changes about every 5 to ten minutes

Well, actually I find that the majority of people on these boards do buy an additional warranty (3-4 years). The reason that I don't purchase the extra coverage is b/c the credit card that I use to make my purchase automatically extends my warranty by another year, giving me two years total.

I don't usually keep my systems for much more than two years anyway. For the amount the I spend on a system & for the amount I could get a new one for, I just don't feel it's worth it to shell out the extra cash. The last couple of laptops that I've ordered have all been ~ $570-$700. If I was ordering a system > $1000, then I'd probably consider the warranty.

Wow thanks for this link. I'm getting a 1505 and this the best deal I've seen for one. Is there any way I can use my education discount with this as well?

Check and see if your school participates in the epp program. When you go to the Dell website, go to the higher education portion and type in your school and select your state.

I don't see anywhere for you to enter an e-value code on Dell EEP, so you probably won't be able to stack your educational discounts with this configuration.

If you don't need any additional warranty, & depending on the configuration you want, you probably won't be able to get an E1505 on EEP for nearly as cheap as the offer in the link I provided.
