I haven't had any experience with the d630, but the Thinkpad does have a brand name and a good legacy behind it.

From everything I've read, I think either laptop is a good choice. I have the Dell D630--have had it for almost two months now, and I'm very happy with it. It's very well built and comes with a three year warranty standard which is nice. For me, the D630 was quite a bit cheaper than a comparable T61, but I'm happy. I also like the looks of the D630 better than the T61.

Dordale said pretty much what I was going to say.

D630 comes with a 3 year warranty standard, is generally a little less expensive, and I personally like the look and feel of it better. The D630 should get better battery life too. And Dell includes the Windows disc, which is nice.

However, in the T61's favor, it's slightly thinner (I think), it offers a slightly more powerful video card (if you select the dedicated graphics option), it has a nicer (IMO) selection of ports and slots, it has a webcam option, and there's an option for a standard-ratio screen (i.e. non-widescreen)

T61's thermal design seems to be problematic, CPU could reach 88C in full load.

Also, Mercuzio, please don't double-post. This thread should've been in the "What should I buy?" forum... not both the Dell and Lenovo forums.
