open the control panel, click on system, click the hardware tab, click device manager, click on monitors, then right click plug and play monitor, select properties, then hit the details tab, the first 3 letters will tell you what it is, if you dont know what they stand for, use the search function

are you unhappy with or having problems with it? If your under warranty and having real issues you could either send it back, or get dell to send you a new screen, your chances of getting a worse screen are just as high as getting a better one though, you cant request a specific brand, so, unless theres something really wrong with it, I'd keep it

There really isnt anything you need to do to take care of the screen except keeping it away from any kids that you may have.
I use a soft cloth to clean my screen once a month or so but nothing out of the ordinary.

Even though the LG screens are generally prefered by more people currently, I have friends (that owned M1710s) who prefer the Sharps & Samsungs on their laptop. So I guess it all comes down to whether there is any physical problems with the screen itself & also personal preference for one brand of LCD to be "better" than the others.
