Ok so I have an I6000 with:
    1.3Ghz Cele-M
    512mb RAM
    GMA900 graphics
    60 gig HDD

It's not the best. So, I looked on ebay and you can get good deals on I6000s, 9200s, and 9300s with good specs. So I'm thinking that I could sell this laptop for like $200 less than I bought it for and then buy something like a 9200.

My question is, how future-proof is a 9200 with 2Ghz PM, 2 GB RAM, and a 128mb ATI 9700? I'm pretty sure that it will run Vista and play msot games decently. Prices have gone down so much since just a year ago when I bought this. What would you do in my situation?

You'll probably need to drop the price a bit more than $200. It seems most people aren't interested in what would currently be considered low-end systems.

In answer to your question, though: If running Vista and handling most games is sufficiently future-proof for you, then yes. Naturally, there is no such thing as a future-proof computer - or even a "fairly" future-proof computer. The best one can ask for is "maximally," with "sufficiently" being what most should shoot for. Personally, I have no plans of upgrading to Vista.

I dunno, I think I could sell it in the price range I'm shooting for. I watched the same laptop sell for $630 on ebay today which is more than what I plan to sell mine for.

I think I'm going to see if I can sell this and then try to get a 9200. It should be ok for what I'll be doing on it.

    Oh. My. God.

Ok, so my laptop won't boot up Windows... WTF. Seriously. Maybe it's a sign? I got a blue sreen with all this mumbo jumbo on it so I turned it off and restarted but it won't boot up and the screen says "Error loading operating system"

What is going on? What bad timing... Guess I can't sell it right now...

Should I try reinstalling Windows or should I take it somewhere to see if they can do anything?

I had so many files on there...

I'd try re-installing the OS - you might try running in Safe Mode and get all your documents out if possible.

On the blue screen, it will give you alot of information.

Can you give us part of what it is saying? Any mentions of a .dll file or driver?

The blue screen is gone forever. I can't get anything but a black screen with the words "Error loading operatoing system" or the BIOS.

Gahhh. I was having dreams of an Inpsiron 9200 or 9300 and this happens. OH well.

hmm, the only thing i know of is to completely reformat your HDD. You could try to repair it but if it isn't detecting the OS, then a repair probably won't work.

What did you do to cause this? Did you just turn it on and it erred? Things like this are worrysome.

I sometimes got the blue screen while doing normal things like surfing the web. I thought I could reformat and fix everything, but I was waiting to buy a second hard drive for my desktop so I could transfer all my files. This time when I got the blue screen, I couldn't get back to Windows.

Is there any way I can recover my files before trying a reformat?

One thing that you might be able to do is to use your internal HDD as an external hdd. HDD can act as a storage unit, and if windows is corrupted but the hdd is fine, you *might* be able to access your files that way.

Once you find out the size of your HDD (2.5 or 3.5) then you can buy an external kit for about 12 bucks. Here are some 2.5 sizes from Newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2000090092+1053807124&Submit=ENE&Subcategory=92

The kit will hook your HDD up to another computer using USB cord. From there it acts like a SD card almost or some other storage unit. It shows up in "My Computer" and you'll have access to your files if the HDD has not been corrupted or damaged.

Kinda sounds from your previous problems and current errors that the HD is dieing and soon to be nonfunctioning. So if you can get it up get your info off quick.

I'm reinstalling Windows right now. The computer detected that the harddrive's capacity was 57224mb and that 57223mb was free. So I figured everything was gone.

Oh well, nothing on there was really important anyways. I just had a big collection of Dave Matthews Band videos and music (15 gigs worth :( ).

YES! It works. Reinstalled Windows and everything runs fine. It seems a lot speedier then before. I guess I'll try to sell it now...

Before I sell it, are there any tests that I should run or anything like that?
