    You said it looks like that when you turn it on? As in your loading and bios screens (before you login to Vista) looks messed up to? If that is the case, then it is hardware. Either your video card or screen going caput. Can you hook up a external monitor?

    Try reinstalling your video card drivers.

    Edit, everyone is saying screen....it is not your screen.

    How can you say 100% it is not his screen? I honestly would like to know, because at first glance it looks like either screen or video card (i.e. hardware).

    Of course try to reinstall the video card driver, but if your screen looks like that in say your Bios, video card drivers are not going to help.

    Yeah, but what people want/need to know is, is the screen garbled AFTER Vista loads? Is is garbled BEFORE the Vista splash screen?

    Have you connected to an external display? How's that look?

    If the screen is normal at BIOS startup then its not the GPU or LCD.

    If you plug in an external monitor and it views fine, then its not your GPU.

    It does look like the gpu is failing though... but i cant be sure..

    wow you can really see the grain in the OP's photo.

    It's just more reasonable to start with something small and easy to fix like a video card driver and then work our way up. From what I see, I would troubleshoot Driver/Vid card/ and then GPU.

    @Charles
    What do you mean by when you first turn it on? Is it like that during the Dell splash screen or when you boot into windows?

    Are you saying it stays like that after booting into Vista... or it clears and appears normal once the OS has loaded? How old is your computer?

    I think your saying it also appears this way in the bios, if that's the case please take a picture. If it is I would recommend reseating the monitor cable. (refer to service manual from Dell Support site)

    Have a camcorder/movie camera handy? A short movie for us to watch can really help us.

    I don't think you need to open your notebook. Just take a picture of your bios, which appears after you press F2.

    He is saying it turns on as soon as he turns it on and says "Dell". Depending on your Warranty (you say it is 10 months old), send it back NOW! If you only have a year warranty feel lucky that this happened now and not 3 months from now. As in, try to look on the bright side if you can. :(

    Well you'll have to call tech support. They'll try to troubleshoot the problem by phone so set aside a good hour or so for the call. Then they'll set up either a service call or return. But you'll most likely need to jump through the tech support hoops before they'll agree to either solution.
