Alright. So I want a laptop real bad. the dell inspiron. and right now they have the 425$ off $1399 purchase coupon. the whole thing is going to cost like $1065 (including shipping/tax). My brother is determined to not let me get it, swaying my mom to not front the money everytime i bring it up. i have a job and will be making payments to her (better her than to a credit company).

my bro keeps telling me to wait and wait, "better deals will come"

but I'm convinced that this 425$ one is a pretty sick deal. through the years of being a notebook enthusiast and all the time you've spent on this forum, to your memory, when and what was the best deal you guys have seen for dell inspirons?

    thanks..

DUDE GO FOR IT. BUY IT NOW. A deal like this will not come around again. I got lucky because I was one of the people to buy when the Inspiron 1520s were new and Dell was still figuring out the correct pricing options (prices for accessories/components changed daily), and I was able to snag mine for relatively cheap....but $425 off dude....!!! TAKE IT NOW!!!

Current prices look good, not extraordinary- but good's been harder to find these days since Dell jacked up prices in the middle of August. Be careful about putting too much weight on the "$425 off" coupon- Dell tends to raise prices when they offer those coupons, so the same configuration can go from "$300 off" $1500 to "$425 off" $1650 overnight.

That 425 off coupon is about 30% off... very nice!

They have not changed the prices around, I got the system in my sig for 984. I think that is one hell of a deal. I had been configuring it over the last few weeks and it always came to 1409. Right now the inspirons are a far better deal then the vostro is you want to get a system maxed out.

Just a recommendation, buy your own ram, its much cheaper and simple to do. I got 2 gigs of ram for 55$ vs 125 dell wanted just for the upgrade!

They'll probably come up with another coupon like this, but not for a long time probably. I'd go for it man.

wow this sucks, i have been looking to buy a 1520 since about 2 weeks after it came out. i was thinking it cant get any better than $325 off so last week for my birthday i decide to buy one and now there even cheaper...just my luck. i could have gotten the 1600x1200 screen/webcam and still end up playing $30 less. i'm so angry im thinking about returning once i get it.

    what do u guys think?

Dell will offer you credit if you tell them you want to return it.

The credit depends on how much you paid for the system though.

Do the math, and make the choice that you want/can live with.

lol when i went through escalations dept to place my new order i used the 325 off coupon then after that i got 250$ off + 200$ off + 200$ (executive offices) off later on from making another call. even though it was dirt cheap i still sent it back due to the crap screen.. was simply not worth it to me to keep it. bought a sager and spent almost 650$ simply due to my aggravation from dell .. HUGE DISO****S CAN be had you simply need to KEEP CALLING and calling and calling etc.. and just simply get annoying they will end up just simply wanting to get rid of you trust me. lol

I was going to return my laptop today (day 30) since the current promotions for the Inspiron & Vostros could get me a better computer for less. Anyhow, I told the rep this and she offered me $100 credit or $250 Dell coupon to keep it. I took the $250 and kept my computer. Nice indeed :D.

Here's how it went down. I had been thinking I had overspent on the system for a couple weeks. It came down to day 30 and I had to make a decision. I was reading thru the forums here and I found another deal on a Vostro for $649 with a bigger hard drive and 9-cell battery. The question was, was I willing to chance returning the one I had because it's absolutely perfect (someone would have bought it thru the outlet and would have been very happy). I figured I would take the chance and so I called Dell.

I basically told the rep that I wanted to set up a return. She said "OK' and asked me my order number. She then said I need to put you on hold for a minuten(part of their strategy?). After about a minute, she came back on, and asked me the reason I'm returning it. I told her that I was finding that my 80gb drive and 6-cell battery were insufficient. I did a little complaining about the fact that the 6-cell only gave me about 1 hour of life and that the 80gb was half full with just the OS and a few programs.

She then said something to the effect of "I can offer you a credit so you could upgrade". I said great, but that I couldn't find (on Dell's support site) anywhere where I could purchase a larger drive. That gave her a mission. She put me on hold again to research where to get a drive. She came back with a number (that I later called and the Indian woman couldn't hardly speak English and was of no use) and said I could call them about the upgrade. She asked me again if I still wanted to return it, and I said, "What type of credit could you give me?". She said "On your system, I can offer you either a $100 credit or a $250 Dell coupon. I told her, I'd take the coupon. She put me on hold, got me a case number and wished me a nice day.

I was really impressed with how pleasant she was to talk with. The deal she gave me made me much more comfortable about keeping the system and put my mind at rest. The final deal after all was said and done was I paid $1490 for the system in my sig including 3 year complete care and tax and am getting back $400 ($150 from complete care and $250 for not returning) Dell dollars. Effectively, my system and warranty was only $1090! An awesome deal for a great computer. Thanks Dell :D!

About a year ago the same thing happend to me I bought a D420 I think..played with it for a week and called to return, they practically begged me to keep it..first $200 off...then...$300 and I think they capped out at something like $450 off (total price was around $2k) but I hated the thing so much I said no.

Not a bad strategy if that's the kind of person you are, but I'll tell you I strayed from Dell with a Toshiba and I would genuinely feel bad to do that to try and shake 'em down for a few hundred bucks, I think they sell a great product at an fair price, and with some legwork, a great price and why try and put the pinch on 'em?
