I thought i had everything finally set regarding my driver problems and all that, but turns out, once i installed AIM, my connection status and folders networking folders in control panel all got screwed up... WHY!? this is really annoying, 3rd time i've reformatted in 2 days. is there a way to fix this without reformatting/reinstalling? i even uninstalled AIM...nothing.
-
Do you get a server execution failed error message when you move your mouse over the network system tray icon on the far right side of your taskbar?
-
yes sir i do
im going to reformat again, but i would still like to know so i can fix this in the future, cheers -
You can't AIM at Vista! You can only Live with Vista!
-
1.Hold Windows Key+R.
2.In the run window that pops up, type CMD. Press Enter.
3.In the prompt that comes up, type this exactly:
Net localgroup Administrators localservice /add
4.After restarting your computer, all the networking and wireless functions in vista should work once again. -
thanks, ill keep this on tab
-
Let me know if it works for you.

Granted, but the op requested if there is any possible fix for this issue that it be posted. And at the moment the aforementioned change does get rid of the problem at-hand.
-
i also had similar network issues with vista, but i wasn't sure what was causing it. I reformatted 3x and each time after awhile, the problem would surface again. Is aim really the cause of it?
Anyhow, my solution was going back to windows xp, even tho i really wanted to give vista a shot -
I too had this problem with the new aim. Adding the admin group solved the issue completely for me. It was a huge relief.
-
can you explain why i'd be a huge security risk? what can i do to protect myself?
i just did it and it works! but how does adding an admin group fix this?
This solution seems to be fixing a lot of people's computers with the same problem

please note that there is a difference between a WORKAROUND and a FIX. what is suggested is a WORKAROUND, not a FIX because it does not fix the actual problem; instead, it allows the user to apparently "bypass" the problem when in reality the fix opens up a huge security hole by giving administrator privileges to low level system processes.
the only fix i found was a complete reinstall which i did a few days ago. prior to reinstall, i performed repair via the OS disc and i started running into little problems (specifically with previously installed apps like daemon tools) so i just reinstalled. -
i formatted 3 times prior, hoping for a fix
does windows recognize this? i hope they come out with a driver soon that fixes it -
there is a hotfix from microsoft for this issue.

if i do this, how do i reverse the adding administrator thing i did before?
-
dunno about the reversing...but i just noticed that we have the exact same 1520 setup (minus the color). i did both of these steps below at the same time on my comp and one of them fixed it. i would def try the hotfix first and if that doesnt fix it atleast you know the other will.
strt>run>cmd
net localgroup Administrators /add Local Service
or
windows hotfix

i never had an issue with aim and vista...
-
Try the new AIM Beta, that seems to work flawlessly!
-
Bumping the thread guys...
My girlfriend did this and her vista screws up too. She rolled back as far as she could, and it fixed the red X...but AIM won't load at all.
Any ideas? -
why not get trillian instead? who needs aim...
-
AIM has given me no problems om Vista.
Not sure exactly the issues you're having... -
Solution...
Start>Accessories>Command prompt
Right-click command prompt select "run as administrator"
then type this in
net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add
restart computer -
only older versions of AIM screw it up. if you stick to the AIM 6+ (the new UI) you will be fine.
what's with AIM and vista internet? please help!!
