    ok so I pulled the 1705 out of the shipping box and the first thing I did was put C&C the first decade on it. but it took about 30 minuets for it to install. :confused: then I installed 3dmark05 pro and that took like 5 minuets to install. whats going on here?

    could be several things. Dell comes with a lot of junkware on it, so you might have several processess running in the background if you haven't formatted yet.

    I have the 6400 (e1505) and I felt the same way. For me, it was all the programs that Dell jams in there. McAfee was a big one for me. You can try the format guide by SouthernGIrl or just uninstall them like I did. It worked for me.

    so basically just reinstall windows? I about craped myself when I looked at the process's running when I first started it up. 70 running right out of the box

    Yeah, that's way too many - I definately do the reinstall ASAP. I did it and I have 37 processes running (which I think is still too many, but 70 is insane).

    normally, depending on what software you have installed - you want to shoot for somewhere around 40 processess. Even when you format, you'll have to optimize your system because XP has several things set to start automatically by default - which most you don't need.

    I think i'm down to about 32 - with not extra software started.
