It depends when you need it. If you need it for next school year, you have the summer to wait. Montevina should come out in July and be in products by August would be my guess. I am waiting myself, but it isn't urgent for me.

atbnet, i don't need it for the school year, but i do need as my own pc. my current one is outdated. as far as gaming goes. so im getting this so i can use it sort of as multimedia center. bluray, gaming as well as work(ie projects from school and such) but this is not for the top priority purpose of school. :D

drop the blue ray drive and you saved 500 bucks! No time like the presen to buy.
If your worried about not having enough power. go get the Alienware m15x with the 15" Nvidia 8800 card.

I would wait if you have the extra bucks to buy the laptop..

Montevina suppose to offer up to a 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo and it saves more energy and it can use up to 4GB of 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM, but if you're gonna get the top processor, and the 4GB @ 1333Mhz, im estimating that it is gonna cost you over $2500..

Now compare that to my system, which is super fast and it can play games pretty damn good, COD4 runs SMOOTH on mine..

Oh btw, i dont think the Montevina is going to have a better video card, it would be the same Nvidia 8600M GT GDDR3..

So it is up to you if you wanna spend the money, if you have the money and want to wait, then wait, if you DONT have the money and want to wait, well there is no point..

Do you need blu-ray viewing on the go?

    If not, get a PS3.

Get a PS3 if you want Blu Ray. $500 for a BluRay drive on the go is just too much in my opinion

However, if you are willing to pay then go ahead. Also if you can wait then i absolutely recommend you to wait for the new XPS refresh

Centrino 2, Geforce 9M , maybe new look for XPS?

At this point in the year with the developments we're shortly due/rumoured to see, I would wait.

Prices can only go down if your particular product isn't updated straight away anyway. It's win-win dependant solely on how urgently you require it.

If you care about pricing, then get it now. Tech tends to be cheaper when something new is imminent aka. Montevina. What you can max out now might not be equivalent to what you can get later when Montevina is out for a long while.

Take M1530. If I were to buy my config much earlier it wouldve cost over 2,000 bucks, but I can get it for 1,300 now.
