Ok, here's my situation: I'm going to law school this august, and planning on buying a Dell 6000. They have extremely good discounts right now, and I was thinking of taking advantage of them. But I know that in 4 months, prices will drop. If I bought a laptop now, it would just sit around since I already have a desktop. I'm just wondering if they will still have the same sort of discounts/coupons in the fall, or if it's a seasonal thing. Any input appreciated!

there's no rush, the coupons/discounts will still be there

another note, as a recent law school grad, may i suggest you look for something with a smaller footprint? as a first year, all your classes will be with the same people and most law school sections are about 80 people, give or take a few. because of this, all your 1st year classes will be somewhat crowded. my experience is that at least 95% of the students in your section will also be using notebooks to take notes.

this means that pretty much everybody will have the following in front of them during lecture: (1) a laptop, (2) the a/c adapter (i know what you're thinking, but most people plug in their laptops during lecture), (3) a mouse (again, i know what you're thinking, but most people use a mouse, too), (4) the casebook for the class, (4) some printed out booknotes that you took and printed out before class and/or at least a pad to take down graphs, diagrams, etc that would be too time consuming on a notebook during the rapid fire lecture.

now, multiply that by 80 and you have a very cramped workspace. i currently have a 6000 and i think i would not have liked it during law school. i used a 12" inspiron 2100 while there at it was perfect.

anyways, just a helpful hint, take it for what it's worth and good luck.

you can email me at drumfumaster (at) yahoo (dot) com if you have questions, be glad to answer them.

No worries. There are always new deals. Best wait to see what happens later on. Worst case the depreciating dollar will drive prices up, but it is doubtful that will be worse than other factors.

    Hello Caym !

I had to laugh at Drumfu because pretty much word for word describing someone I know that recently graduated from law school. He did have a 15.4" notebook at the start of school bought new! Within two weeks had 2 new notebooks! He actually got an exceptional deal on both (only the first was a Dell) so couldn't give it up but said it was too crammed ! Another thing if Drumfu is suggesting /offering you a special invite to email with any questions you may have, Drumfu may be a good person to talk to having been in law scool. It sounds like there are definitely suggestions Drumfu would like to discuss w/you.

As for the coupons there really aren't many "real' good ones left right now that didn't expire 4/19. They will be shortly and if you can wait, then wait and use the better ones that pop up (along w/changes in price,etc...) being practical though not going past the 3 weeks before you need the notebook.

    All the best,
    Heart [ :)]
