When updating to Windows 7 the audio drivers look like the right ones for the studio 15 or any with the IDT, it is not it is generic and you will need the updated driver from the Dell support site, it adds the surround and bass that will be missing and I noticed a big difference.

I have found the native win 7 drivers work without any problem
but the new Win 7 IDT that adds functions is causing a scratchy noise when increasing or decreasing the volume at times, I installed and rolled back the driver 2 times to test this and found that it may be the new drivers.

SO if it happens to you after you do this upgrade let us know please.

If its my machine I need to know.

I will test my moms 1555 as well.

I uninstalled Fast Access because it was taking a lot of CPU time and ram when loaded and I do not need it now, the noises went away so far.

That program may have interfered with the drivers in some way?

I noticed some scratchy sounds while changing the volume as well. Don't know the cause though.

Really? I wonder what makes the 1555 different.. I've never had an issue with Win7.

It's called the IDT audio drivers are garbage, just like they were on every other Studio model. I'm glad I don't need 5.1 audio on my 1537 or I'd have to deal with a few thousand audio problems.

In the IDT control panel, set the "SRS Definition" to something low. Mine's on about 20% right now. Get's rid of the scratchy noises at high volumes.
