Everything on the PC should be listed on the packing slip. That may or may not be what was ordered, however, so the original order details should be reviewed also.
-
ask your parents if you can check out the order confirmation email they received to see if they actually ordered it
-
i looked and all i saw was Microsoft Windows Basic Edition?

Ask your parents.

I thought they just toss a trial at you...which means 60 days only.

Or just download Open Office from Openoffice.org. It's got a nicer, classic interface (at 25, I'm a geezer who hates the way they've changed the menu layout for Office 2007), supports all of Microsoft's formats, and it's free, which is always a bonus.

I ordered Office 2007 Basic or Student (Word, Excel, Outlook (and Business Contact Manager)) with my HP and it came with the trial to get the upgrade (Add to those previously listed Access, PowerPoint, Publisher). The extras work for so many start-ups then revert to dead wood. That is OK by me. I only wanted Word, Excel, and Outlook anyway.

if your a student you can buy office 2007 ultimate for 60 bucks...i think its the way to go.
-
Well worth the price. -
OpenOffice is great. Although I have Office 2002, I still use OpenOffice because it's free and it isn't Microsoft.

@Yoozer:
The bigger advantage to OpenOffice is that is is FREE. That, and it doesn't feel the need to reinvent a menu system that has worked perfectly for over a decade with an insane layout system. -
I agree. Use OpenOffice!

Does open office have something like OneNote?
OneNote is phenomenal for taking notes, organizing information, and gathering sources for research.
OneNote alone is worth the cost of office. -
What is OneNote?

Info about OneNote

There's BasKet: http://basket.kde.org/ . But I'm not sure how it compares to OneNote. I just use OpenOffice for taking notes anyways.
-
I'm done with college, so notes don't really come into play, but I used a Palm Pilot with collapsible keyboard while I was still in school. No battery life concerns there
-
If you frequently take notes for anything, or gather information for research projects ect, you should probably check it out.
If it is as easy and cool as OneNote it will be 1000 times better than using a word processor. -
I use a few Firefox extensions that do what OneNote does. Have a look at Firefox Campus Edition or some of the research and note taking extensions available. I prefer this over OneNote as I have quick access to it while I am doing the research - in the browser, as opposed to a separate application.
As for the rest, I either use OpenOffice or Google Docs. -
