Go to support.dell.com. Look for All Technical Support link on the left. Then look for System Configuration. The next page asks you to agree to install the System Profiler, but you don't need it, just click on "I do not agree". The next page you see should have 3 tab sections. You want "Original System Configuration". Make sure you enter your Service Tag in the fieldbox at the bottom.

Then look for the line like this example from my config:
YD477 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17, WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., LG PHILIPS LCD

Right click on My Computer icon. Click on Properties. Click on Hardware tab. Click on Device Manager. Click on Monitors to open that section. Right click on Plug and Play Monitor. Click on Properties. Click on Details tab. Should say Display and then a alpha numeric code. The first few letters is what you look for. SEC is samsung. Not sure of the rest.

Thanks for this tip, TehStranger. Any hardware status tools and Windows hardware wizard all had 4 Default Displays listed under monitor with no other info. Without the System Configuration info on the support website I wouldn't even know I had AU Optronics screen.

The support website tells me this:
DF856 MODULE, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WU, D820, SHARP

but when I go to hardware wizard I have SEC3255 which I am sure is correct. My computer is certified refurbished, so either they changed the monitor at some point from Sharp to SEC (Samsung) or the Sharp in the description stands for UltraSharp or something like that.

Yes, if your laptop is refurbished, then the LCD could have been changed.
If your LCD is Ultrasharp, the support website would have stated WUXGA, so SHARP is the maker.
The method I mentioned earlier is assuming you are the first owner of that Dell with no repairs. Plattnnum's method is faster and accurate but it gives you a Manufacturer Code, so you would have to ask around to figure out who the maker is.
