which one, dell E1705 or HP DV9000Z
    Hi, everyone.
Please help me to decide. I just cannot decide which is the better one. The price is almost same, around 1100 BUCKS. Well, dell is Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5600 and geforce go 7900 gs, 1G RAM with matt wxga screen(the glossy one is wuxga with truelife, I like the truelife but wuxga is too hard for my eyes). The HP is Core 2 Duo processor T5200 (lower speed) and geforce go 7600 (slower compared with 7900), but with the glossy screen with wxga or wsxga.
    So, which one?
I prefered the dell considering the stronger GPU and CPU, but my wife voted for HP which has a beter shape.

This would depend on what you are going to use the notebook for. If it will be used primarily for gaming, go for the E1705. If looks are important, go for the dv9000. It will play most games out there.

My vote is for the HP, it will do 99% of the stuff the dell will, and it looks better and has innovative features like quickplay. On a side note, I though the DV9000Z uses the AMD Turion processor line, not the intels? The DV9000T is the intel line I believe.

The E1705 is better, i find the HP comptuers to look ugly, they have all the ports on the sides and it looks too cluttered

Ohhhh trust me, you never have to worry about heat from a 7900gs in an E1705, everyone I know (including myself) has had wonderful temps. I actually overclocked mine because I had so much head room. If you want performance go with the E1705. The HP probably has a LITTLE better build quality, but I am not saying the E1705 is bad at all (I have had mine for about 6 months and it still looks like the day I bought it, not a thing wrong with it). The E1705 is something of a beast to look at, but the power it packs under the hood more than makes up for it.

I would go with the e1705 myself, better gfx's and CPU don't let looks throw you from the better performing notebook.

the e1705 is what i would recommend. i have owned an hp (dv1000t) it was crap. yes it was light and compact, but ports alll over place looks messy on desktop. was slower than my 3 yr old dell and i always had errors and frezing for a few secs.

i faced the same dilema as you, and dell won me out with the 7900 gpu. I dont have much heat problems, and i usually run top end games, and with a second monitor (although i used 18kfaugui and set my fans to both always run on low)

Honestly, when you are talking about a mid range (I would even argue high end, the 7900gs packs a BIG punch) gaming platform and multimedia machine the E1705 comes out ahead 9 times out of 10. The reasons people shy are typically pretty superfluous, the name "Dell" scares them because they remember dells bad years (which have since past), and the E1705 is sort of an ugly duckling. Can't think of a darned thing wrong with it past those things. The HP just comes up a little short as far as the graphics card comes, and the E1705 has more ports, and the options for a better screen. I think the only thing the HP has that the E1705 doesn't is an on/off button for the touch pad (I think it has one, most HPs do). Just comparing the 2 so you see your options (heh, i guess I'm a little biased though).
