    I have a Inspiron6400 laptop.I got the backpack for it,yesterday.
My question is, which side should be up? I mean, in the bag, should the dvd side go to the bottom or the hard drive side?
    thanks

I don't think it really matters.

As long as the LCD is to your back, with nothing in between your back and LCD (aside from the bag of course) you are fine.

Interesting. I always try to keep the LCD away from my body so I don't push the screen into the keyboard (my I8000 had a rubbing issue, so maybe that's why) but it has always worked for me. I just always watch that I don't slam into anything. Plus, it's a padded compartment.

Also, on my backpack, it would be book|book|book|notebook|laptop|back, and that's just too much pressure for the lcd while running through campus for me.

Now it a messanger that's laptop|books|notebooks|files|back. I find that works best for me.

so its not a problem if the dvd or the HDD bears the pressure.
But should it be lcd near my back and the rear facing the outside?
    thanks

I always have the bottom of the computer to my back and the DVD drive at the top. The DVD drive cover is fairly flimsy and there is nothing to worry about on the other side. The HDD is held in with screws so it's not going anywhere.

The reasoning I've heard from several places (and it makes sense) is that most of the brunt on the laptop is going to come from the books and crap within the backpack. Your back isn't going to put as much pressure on the laptop as the books will, and the LCD screen is more delicate. The corner of a book could ruin the LCD screen, but probably wouldn't hurt something else if it got hit. Your back can't exactly hit the screen in one place, so any "hit" is spread over a lot of area and no one spot will get hit hard enough to damage it.

The last time I didn't follow this rule, I had to get my screen replaced :(.
