Does anybody know if dell makes them themselves or if they rely on a 3rd party?
-
Does it really matter, goons probaly make them.
-
whoever makes them should try harder.
-
I agree. I just had mine replaced.
-
I ha mine overheat when idle lots of blue screen deaths.
-
-
I haven't gotten any BSOD yet. But my gpu died.
-
Download CPU-z, its usually Quanta or Winstron
-
Usually its the manufactorer of the notebook's chassis.
-
Who makes the chassis?
-
CPUz does not say on my m1530 just says Dell.. not sure who makes them for the m1530

who makes the xps m1530 line?
-
Most likely Quanta.
Dell doesnt make their own boards. -
Who makes the xps m1330 boards?
-
I honestly never heard of 5 out of the 6 manufacturers listed here. But I never investigated either and I always just built desktops.
So Dell designs the boards and then sends the specs to one of those, or these people design the boards and make them?
flipfire, what is your source?
I am impressed by samsung that only uses Asus boards. That's probably why some of thier models are so expensive. it would be interesting to know which Sony models use which boards. -
Those brands are ODMs (original design manufacturers) behind the brands that you know of.
You only know Asus because theyre the only corporation that actually manufacture their own products. -
My Vostro (and presumably the whole Vostro line of the same series and the equivalent Inspirons) is Foxconn - mb and chassis.
-
Yeah I'd add Foxconn to that list above too and it should capture the majority of them.
-
Foxconn is huge in the desktop motherboard for dell. I did not know they made laptop ones too.
-
Yup - got an Inspiron desktop upstairs which is Foxconn too.
-
The list i provided was back in 07. They probably signed up with Foxconn after then
-
Yep Foxconn is the one responsible for my laptop also
but however they do it, it would seem as if they make them with the feet lol
or they hire monkeys to do the job, hey no contracts, no salary, just a couple of banana shipments every now and then hehe -
Also, I believe Foxconn is a part of ECS. -
how about the e6400?
-
-
Yup. I believe both of my laptops 1420 and 1520 have foxcon.
-
That is interesting
So why don't people buy directly from ODMs.
The compal sell notebooks.
Will they be the same quality as the dell laptops made by compal ? -
The companies will often times have a special setup made for a specific laptop. For example, dell will say we have this new laptop coming out, we would like it to have this this and this and cost around this. It must have this shape to it...they will go out and engineer a special one for dell and if dell likes it they will use it. Each manufacture will get different ones.
They wont be the same motherboards the ODMS sell. In addition, why not buy from them? Well that's not the real business they are in. To sell to us, they would have to sell a LOT more to be profitable. Dell, HP, etc already have market share and it would be difficult for an ODM to jump in and try selling their products because they will have to sell them at a higher price because of the lower sales volume.
I mean, would your mother go out and buy Quanta computer when there is a dell and hp and sony right next to it? Probably not. It doesnt really matter if its better, or the same, its all about the name.
who makes dell's motherboards?
