I received e1705 today.. removed vista and installed clean XP.
I installed all the drivers except Dell Draft-N wireless.
Can someone help me find Draft-N driver?
I tried and installed the driver from Dell Support(Dell Draft-N US only) but it wont work!
Also the wifi doesnt light up when I press FN+F2.
In device manager.. it says "(?)Network Controller"
I do know my ethernet is installed and connected because Im using it to post right now..
I also know wifi does work.. not defective because I was playing around with vista that had drivers installed.(was working fine)

And make sure you have your wireless enabled by pressing "FN" & "F2" -
thank you so much! it fixed right away!
although, it is draft-n? stuff like sound blaster and wireless shows different name in device manager from what I ordered from dell.
Sigmatel for audio
Intel for wireless
is this normal?
and it seems I cant seem to connect to hidden ssid(not broadcasted ssid)...?
do I need other software than a microsoft wireless config util? -
Intel for wireless
this is normal for an e1705/9400 mine is the same. But i can connect to a hidden ssid, make sure you have it correct. -
In order to connect to a hidden SSID, you have to create a profile for it.

cc2918, if you ordered a Draft-N wireless card your system should have the Dell Wireless (Broadcom) 1500 or 1505 card or the Intel 4965AGN (Vista only) installed. Since the Intel 3945 (A/B/G) drivers appear to be working for you, it sounds like you have the Intel 4965 in your system. This means the 802.11n functionality will not work as the Intel 3945 driver does not support it. I do not know if Intel has released XP drivers for the 4965 card or not (Dell only sells the card on systems that ship with Vista installed so we don't have a driver).
As for audio, all Dell systems with integrated sound use the Sigmatel audio chipset. For some systems you can purchase the SB Audigy Advanced MB software (not hardware) that adds the SoundBlaster software functionality that you would normally only get with an Audigy card to your system.
By the way, since you installed XP from scratch, please make sure you installed the Dell Notebook System Software for your system. That 'driver' is an extension of the Intel Chipset Software designed to ensure Windows can properly talk to all the hardware on the motherboard (basically, it makes sure the Dell stuff works). That update, along with all the latest drivers for the system, is available on the Dell support website ( http://support.dell.com).
If you have any other questions about the computer I will be more than happy to answer them.
