i know it's got hdmi, but i just have an s-video input on my tv. i like to play old school emulated games on tv and i've found an adapter that will convert vga to svideo, but it says the computer graphics card must support it. i'm getting the xps with the integrated graphics x3100 so, will i be able to use my tv?

Shouldn't be a problem.

im wondering since it has hdmi, can you play the Ps3 with your laptop? hmmm???

HDMI is only output not input.
Only a handful of notebooks have Video in(often the TV tuner), so using a notebook screen externally is often impossible. -
The adaptor you're talking about, if it's what I think it is, will ONLY work if the video card is SPECIFICALLY designed to output S-Video through unused pins on the VGA port. Unless this is specifically advertised as a feature (and I'm pretty sure it's not for the m1330) then this simple adaptor will NOT work.
A true VGA to S-Video adaptor - one that can take a VGA signal and convert it to S-Video - is an active device that requires circuitry and a power source and will cost more than a few bucks.
And as coriolis says, the HDMI port on the notebook is output only. -

No you can't. You can only output not input -
thanks for the info, sunfox. any idea where i can get the adaptor you're talking about and how much?

Something like this...
http://www.avermedia.com/cgi-bin/products_digitvtuner_hybridcardbus.asp?show=2#1
It supports the following input sig's
o 75 Ohm (UHF/VHF) TV Antenna Input
o Composite Video
o S-Video
o Stereo Audio L/R
o FM (RF Radio Antenna Input)
You could probably use the composite... and there are probably better products out there. -
I think you'd be looking for something like this http://www.svideo.com/vga2video2.html (just as an example).
will a m1330 work on a tv?
