montevina platform should launch in first half next year, i ask myself how much time do you expect dell will wait until they release an update for this notebook.

Montevina is supposedly coming in Q2 of next year, as soon as it is out the M1330 will probably be upgraded. It might get a different number than 1340 since Montevina is a big update. I wonder if they will let you choose between the three different versions of the GMA X4500 if you choose integrated graphics?

First the model number will be anything but M1340. For your information 1330 is derived from 13.30 inches. No one knows what Dell will offer (even the internal staff) at this moment. You have asked the question way too early.

Dell USA is planning not to offer T7700 cpu or Blu-Ray drive with M1330 due to heat issues. I wonder if penryn cpus will make it.

i think the 1330 is like...

the first 2, '13', represents the screen size in inches (rounded), just like just about every laptop with dell. '14'20, '15'00. the second half is like...

since its an xps, and its recent, its odd numbered-ish, which is why its 17'30' and 13'30' and maybe even 15'30'. and there was the 12'10' and 17'10'. since the xps branding is supposed to symbolize high performance, and the inspiron to be general usage or whatever, it has the higher (second half) number of the generation at hand. the last number is only 1 or 6 if the platform is amd based, or is like (vostro) 1000 for amd.

    1405 and 1210
    1420 and 1330

but as for your question, the m1330 ought to be updated about half a month to a month after montevina's release. since its a whole new platform, unlike penryn or something, it should get a whole new line with it. i dont know about that too much because it hasnt even been a year since santa rosa's release, and a new platform is going to be out. whatever...

i THINK. this is based off of observations. if you look at the notebooks, you'll also notice how the name corresponds to screen size and whether or not its an inspiron or an xps.

thats why its the 1420 and not the 1430. cuz its an inspiron. taking a shot in the dark, the next gen inspiron 14 incher will be called the 1440, unless dell takes the apple/sony/ect route and names each laptop personally (macbook, vaio sz).

PS. i doubt this applies to the latitude or precision line.
