A friend asked me to fix their son's laptop up. It had 7 trojans, loads of spyware, and numerous not fully uninstalled business programs. It was an ex business laptop, that his dad was given from his employer. After giving it a thorough cleanup it was running great, for an old laptop. It connected to my Thomson Gateway router with ease. :)
After a year at Perth Modern School and doing very well his parents bought him a new laptop. I was asked if I wanted the old one. Why not?
The problem is it will now not connect wirelessly. I have updated drivers etc, but it still searches. It sees my network, signal strength excellent but cannot acquire network address. The previous user had an iphone and the settings show the mac addresses.
I have setup my home network with no problems, 1 wired ( my gaming pc ) and the Family PC wireless in another room. Please any ideas? I have tried googling help in wireless setup, ie step by step settings. But most results were Company advertising for wireless.
Happy New Year! awaiting your ideas. regards Keith

One option may to try and set static IP instead of DHCP. See if that helps.

Also I am hoping you have checked all basic settings like the security type, key match etc.

Try setting static IP, you can get DNS from the router settings/status.
