ok so I have been hearing that the batteries in the recently received vostros 1400 and 1500 wobble a bit.

I was wondering if this is also the case in the inspirons 1420, 1520, 1720.

I am trying to find out if mine is going to wobble but seeing as how no one has commented on a vostro 1700 yet I have to result to asking about other products that are similar and making an educated guess

It's not a wobble. It's not a jiggle. The movement is too imperceptible to be called that. My 1420 battery has a minisicule amount of space for vertical movement - if I grab it with my hands, I can move it maybe a 1/10 of an inch up or down.

I think it's honestly the most foolish complaint I've read about the new lineup of Dell's. For all we know, it was engineered that way to shift stress on the battery handle to the body off the battery (to prevent the handle from snapping off and leaving the battery stuck in the body).

ok thank you, that was more than I needed. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be something to ruin my confidence in what I bought. as long as it still feels safely in place for traveling and such I will be happy

A lot of people on this forum overreact to everything. Take it with a grain of salt.

I would not be overly concerned; my T60 (which is supposed to be one of the better-constructed business notebooks has battery jiggle. You likely will not notice it as time goes on; remember you do have a warranty, if you are concerned call Dell.

The battery is definitely secure. It just has a bit of space to angle up and down at the handle. Again, the movement room probably helps with stress distribution so that any pressure can be absorbed by the wall of the battery and the notebook chassis rather than absorbed totally by the battery handle.

the 9-cell battery on my Vostro 1400 certainly "wobbles" but yeah its not a problem. Its secured tightly, but they left some wiggle room for some reason.
