My original order cost $1480 (after tax and shipping), and included the $292 select Inspiron discount, $200 student discount, 7% Dellcare Plus discount, and 12% discount for orders over $1600 and 3/4 year warranty. It already came with a 160 gig hard drive (5400RPM) and a 9cell battery, but I had to pay extra for the 2gig RAM.

After reconfiguring the system with the exact same stats and the NEW discounts ($350), I believe I can no longer use my $200 student discount or 12% discount, and it came out to be roughly $50 cheaper than my original. If that is the most I can get off (I think my original price was already pretty good), then I am not going to cancel my order. Although, the only thing I'd really upgrade is the hard drive to 7200RPM and get the Bluetooth, both which I don't really need, but would make it about equal price as I had before.

Am I not getting the discounts right and they should be cheaper or is this about the best I can get?

That "new" $350 discount is the coupon code on this site? Try going through the EPP site again to get the same discounts, and check how that stacks with the RAM and hard drive freebies.

Dell does a price match thing, though I'm not sure on the details. I asked earlier on here and didn't get an answer... maybe you'll have better luck.

I had everything working with the epp, the 292, 200, and 4%. I reconfigured today, and it was 80 dollars cheaper, NOT including the ram and hard drive upgrade. It was worth reordering for me.

but its a free upgrade from 120 gigs to 160 gigs. the 7200 rpm is optional either way and you save a bunch.

I might go with the 7200 rpm since I don't think I'll use the battery that much.

Btw, do you all think that they'll lower the price again anytime soon? If so, I (and a few others) might have to cancel my order again. Rofl.

If they do, you should be able to price match as long as the difference is $50 or more. I think. Call, maybe?

Does price matching include having your order cancelled and the ship date bumped back again?

I think that's what happens before it ships, but I still haven't gotten a straight answer (meaning pointing to anything definite online on the Dell site) on whether or not they price match for 21 days after the shipping date. I've heard they do, as long as the difference is over $50, but I could be horribly misinformed.

Your best bet might be to call and see what they can do for you.

Yes, I ordered a 1520 this afternoon and found out that the prices have dropped even more. So, I had to cancel it. I think that's what would happen everytime. What I'm wondering is how many more times this would happen within, say, the next month.
