wow! can't belive its true!

Placed order for blue 1420 on 11/5, and now when i check the status its shipped (on 11/7). Pretty impressive turnaround time!.

Only wish all is good and as per the oder! Fingers crossed!

Statistically speaking, your chances of getting a good one are good. First off, you ordered a 1420 which has the headphone jacks up front. This is good since the 1520 has had a high rate of static/morse code noise from the jacks on the side. Even dell admits their is a design flaw in an internal powerpoint doc.
Secondly, you smartly chose a wxga ( with even the anti glare option.. smart you) instead of wxga + display.. Another smart move since many of the wxga + have grainy issues as well as bad viewing angles. About the only other things that could go wrong would be something wrong with the build quality (that happened to me, a cracked lid which was inexcusable to pass QC audit) or the dreaded CPU whine which seems to plague random notebooks from all makes.

1420 is indeed better designed than 1520 in many terms.

Yeah, Dell has extremely good shipping times. My notebook was ordered on the 31st and it arrived on the 6th... about 3 days for building and 2 days for shipping (plus the weekend).

 

what is the difference between an glossy screen and anti-glare screen? Does anti-glare mean it adds some kind of anti-glare protection to your eyes? Or both glossy and anti-glare ones give the same protection to your eyes.

I also ordered the very same laptop yesterday with exact same config. I got it for under $1000 too after the huge 425 discount.

 

Anti-Glare = no glare, less reflections, matte finish kind. - good for both indoors and outdoors.

Glossy = looks cool, supposedly richer colors, but u can see the world behind you & yourself! - and also all the dust, finger prints etc. good for indoors!

Glossy makes colours more vibrant... it does look a lot better than matte screens... altho there is reflection... but depending on where you use it... it's rarely a problem.
But seriously... the images on a glossy look a LOT more brilliant. (but 2 each his own)

Well folks, I got the system today. All looks good so far!

Ordered 11/5 ; shipped 11/7 ; delivered 11/9 !

 

Just got off Dell chat, I was told that the $200 coupon is only for systems that are over $1499 after all discounts and coupons have been applied. Maybe I was the only one who didn`t know that. In addition I was told I wasn`t getting any coupon because my cost after coupons was $1200. I tried calling cs. and they offered me a free mouse and $50 off my purchase after the system was delivered. I took the free mouse and e-mailed the unresolved issues rep. to pursue this issue of a gift card. I will post results.

 

i dont understand dell. my order is 910$ after 500$ coupon. i chated with dell and she said me that i am gonna take 150$ gift card. i told them about your massage and they said me sorry for misunderstanding. she said me they are gonna send gift card via email. i saved the converisation for proof.

I can confirm what fromelf said. I also chatted with a sales agent, and it seems that the gift card promotion uses the price before the coupon is applied, not after.
