Just ran some HD Tune benchmarks on my new 250GB 7200 Samsung, which came in my XPS 1530. Very impressive I must say. Not only is it completely silent and cool, but it performs beyond my expectations. Coming from a world of desktops and WD 10k Raptors, this little drive holds its own.
Almost 65 MB/sec average read speed. Max almost 80 MB/s!

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Samsung desktop HDD has been my favourite.

Honestly, with anything Samsung branded, I was holding judgment until I could see, hear, and measure by myself. But.. the proof is in the pudding! Runs like a champ!
-
Will the 120gb version see the same performance, or maybe slightly faster?
-
I highly doubt it. As with all hard drives, the higher the capacity, or more precisely the data density, the higher the performance (other factors being equal). -
mine gets hot and i can feel the vibrations coming from the HDD.
gets pretty annoying after a while -
I feel only very very faint vibrations coming from it. I really have to be attentive to notice it. Mine runs quite cool. Strange that two drives of the same brand and model would be so different, or maybe our perception is highly different
-
Oh ok, I figured less tape to spin the faster it read it, dont know much about HDs
-
-
Yeah Lucanesti, a 120GB 7200rpm drive will be quite a bit slower (I had/have one, using it for backup now). A 320GB 5400rpm drive is even much faster.
But to the OP that is some dang good speeds you got there! -
I'm very happy with these results. I thought my hard drive was slow.
-
I just received my new m1730 with the 320GB 7200 RPM HD. I have very high expectations for that beast!
-
I would still encourage all of you with the same drive model to run the benchmark and find out if your own results are in line with mine. Results may differ slightly due to other notebook component differences, but they should be fairly similar.
This being said, I'm most satisfied with what I've seen from the HD Tune results last night and I can safely say that this little Samsung was an excellent choice for building this fine XPS 1530. -
Post some nice hdTune results! -
320gig 7200rpm
That should be a beast, very high density
-
7200.3 250G can reach 72MB average.
-
Yea, I still didn't even get around to unpacking my 1730 but hopefully I will do it today and run some benchmarks. I am so excited about it. Does anyone else have it, I feel like I am the only one that got it so quickly.
-
U´ll be very satisfied with the new beast. I already posted a Bench about that.
-
Wow, the 320GB 7200RPM is indeed a beast, I did HDTUNE and got some pretty good results, it was benchmarked on windows XP SP2. I did not clean install yet, so these number should get better. Here's the screenshot.

Compare that with my Ex Hard drive the hitachi 200GB 7200RPM hd. Here is a screen shot of my old HD, the difference is astonishing.

Dell India offers 250 GB SATA Drive and and 200 GB SATA 7200 drive. It is around US$ 55 extra for the 7200 drive. Is it worth going for the 200 GB SATA 7200 drive over the SATA 5400 RPM one?
-
The 5400 vs 7200 issue has been discussed at length on these forums. In short, you are giving up a some battery life, going to get bit more heat, in exchange for added performance. Is it worth it? Only you can decide.
-
well, I was actually asking whether a 5400 RPM 250 GB drive or a 7200 RPM 200 GB drive has better performance? I noticed from the other posts that bigger the drive capacity the better performance even if it is a 5400 RPM drive.
-
250 5400 vs 200 7200. other things being equal, the 7200 will perform better, no doubt.
wow performance of 7200 250GB Samsung
