So as some of you know, I'm waiting for my new M1210 to come into the mail before I send this one out.
What happened today, I hope, stresses the importance of complete care.
Normally, I'd consider myself VERY protective of my notebooks. I always handle them by two hands and never have liquids beside them. Well, today on my bed, i had the M1210 on my stomach.
I have a portable heater right next to me and it was getting really hot, so I decided to turn it off. When I leaned off the bed to do so, I thought my notebook was secured from falling, but it did regardless.
The notebook's screen hit a chair right next to me, and cracked the monitor. It didn't even hit hard. It was a little dink and I thought everything was ok, but I found out my screen was cracked.
The reason I posted this is to show the importance of warranty when investing in a top dollar system like theses.
Should I tell Dell anything before I ship it out? Or should I just ship it out the way it is?
I didn't do anything wrong and it was 100% an accident.
Thanks guys.

OMG I feel your absolute pain here -- the same happened to my M45 AND XPS!
I honestly can't say what to do, I was lucky and had a warranty for the XPS, and they fixed my screen for free (but I paid for shipping).
Keep posted.
Post edit: BTW for your question, I did not tell them how the screen was cracked. I called support (they asked but I ignored their question and moved to something else) and I shipped it out. -
well i have complete care, and this current notebook had some problem so they sent me out a new xps m1210 which hasnt arrived yet. I will have to send me my old m1210 (this one with problems... and not an additional problem of a cracked screen). I don't know if I should tell them before I send it out.
Thanks -

I would tell them, its coverd by your warranty, if you dont the shipping company is going to get blamed for it, after all YOU did cause the damage, YOU bought the protection against the damage, YOU should own up to it.

That is my thought also. Just tell them they get paid for accidents and it was already messed up any way. They are not going to do anything to you. They also have to get you another laptop any way. It was an accident and that is what accident insureance is for. The money for them is already in the bank just be honest. It does seem like they might try to give you a hard time but I think in this case it is a win win for you. Just let them know while getting it ready or trying to use it, it fell. My dad has had two completely rebuilt with that coverage from Wine dumping into the keyboard. Believe it or not it was an accident too both times. He likes wine before bed. They fixed it. So you already had a problem they have one more to fix. Honest just tell them so the wrong people do not get blamed.

Just tell Dell about it. Since it really is an accident, you've got complete care to cover the damage but most important of all in telling them, you are being honorable on your part of the business. I'm sure Dell will be glad to hear about it since you've been honest with them. They do hope for more honest customers & I'm sure they'll appreciate that little gesture.

i don't want you guys thinking that I was trying to put the blame on the shipping company. I was just thinking if I should wait until I receive my second laptop first before I tell them, that way it will prevent any problems with them trying to hold my shipment on the new system.
I was going to write a note and leave it in the packaging when I sent it out.
So I guess my second question is:
when should I tell them?
thanks
btw guys, I really hope this shows other potential customers the value of complete care. -
My new system will arrive tomorrow.
They told me just to include a note in the the shipment that explain what happened to the system.
I hope everything works with this system. thanks guys. -
How long have u had your system?
How did u manage to make them change your 1210 for a new one? -
I just called XPS Tech support and asked them to send me a new one. They agreed.
The thing is, I had called them previously on two separate accounts to get my touchpad fixed. Replacing the motherboard and the touchpad itself did nothing, so they agreed to send me a new unit.
You shouldn't have a problem getting a new monitor. Good luck and keep us updated. -
just got my new system in today. The problem with the touchpad still persists. I'm almost sure it has to do with vista.
Such a bummer. Tonight I'm going to install vista and see if the problem still continues. It's such a shame really. -

Are you going to reinstall vista or install XP? If your E1505 touchpad gave you no issues, the m1210 shouldnt either, for me they perform exactly the same. Did you show the tech the issue you were having? Another oddity is that thus far you are the only one thats reported such a problem. Hope you get it sorted out.
You wouldnt happen to be able to record a video of the problem would you? -
hmm that's a nice suggestion. I could possibly record it, but how do I host it? I'll see what I can do tonight, thanks a lot budddddy!
i already reinstalled vista and it does the same thing. I'm going to record the irratic pointer movement tonight. Then I'm going to reinstall xp.
I think it might have to do with my scrolling style or something. I wondered why I was the only one with this problem as well. -

Since you are having problems with a touch pad I have a question. I like my M1210 and the touch pad with XP. But the strangest thing is also happening. I like to have it snap to when I click on something. It does if I turn it on. After the reboot though it is not turned on. This is minor but I think it may be software related. Any ideas???

Lapquest - I really am having a hard time understanding what you are saying. Sorry.

I wonder if the build quality on the new xps m1210 is degrading, this make me so nervous bout my xps m1210 I am keeping my finger crossed, dont disappoint me DELL

Sorry Sirius GTO. I have been having long days and short very short nights. Let me ask again. In mouse properties under pointer options the Snap To check box I like useing Automatically move pointer to the default button in a Dialog box. If I check it it works after a reboot it will be unchecked. Sorry maybe that will make more sense.
wow, something bad just happened to my M1210.
