AFAIK, M1330's internal DVD drive is an 8x DVDRW.

What error are you getting? Or is the disk just not detected by the drive period?

Dell sources a ton of drive manufacturers for their machines so you have to be sure the firmware you downloaded is actually for the drive they shipped in our machine. Else it will give you errors like it did as you don't actually have the drive ;)

Also, (to the above posters) a disc labeled as 16x is showing you the MAX write speed that disc supports. It will write at 8x (as is the max on all laptop drives) just fine.

If you are sure it is a potential compatibility issue between the drive and the media you can visit the forums over on www.cdfreaks.com and see if anyone else is having the same issues.

I know, I was thinking that OP meant 16x disks were not detected at 16x :p

It might just be the brand of disc that you bought. I have some Kodak dvd-r (or maybe it's (+r, can't remember) that when i stuck them in my m1330 they showed up as 700meg CDs. I put them in many other computers and they show up the same. Try another 16x disc from another brand and see what happens.

    Vista supports DVD burning
    XP doesn't...
