AFAIK, M1330's internal DVD drive is an 8x DVDRW.
-
yh but he is saying It(meaning software) cant find the drive i think, could you rephrase that and btw 16X will probbaly never come in a laptop due to vibrations etc
-
What error are you getting? Or is the disk just not detected by the drive period?
Dell sources a ton of drive manufacturers for their machines so you have to be sure the firmware you downloaded is actually for the drive they shipped in our machine. Else it will give you errors like it did as you don't actually have the drive
Also, (to the above posters) a disc labeled as 16x is showing you the MAX write speed that disc supports. It will write at 8x (as is the max on all laptop drives) just fine.
If you are sure it is a potential compatibility issue between the drive and the media you can visit the forums over on www.cdfreaks.com and see if anyone else is having the same issues. -

im not worried about speed, it just says its unrecognizable when i put it in. has anyone else tried to install the firmware from dell? i have the mat s h i t a uj-857g
this censoring is ridiculous -
alright my bad, i havent burned a dvd in a while and forgot that you cant move files to it in explorer and have windows burn it like you can with a cd. It wasnt recognized until i opened up my burning program. durr... thanks for the responses anyways

It might just be the brand of disc that you bought. I have some Kodak dvd-r (or maybe it's (+r, can't remember) that when i stuck them in my m1330 they showed up as 700meg CDs. I put them in many other computers and they show up the same. Try another 16x disc from another brand and see what happens.
