9400 done and dusted 4 weeks ago.
Home Prem for me as my 9400 has MCE on atm. -
Bought mine from Dell Outlet and they said it didn't qualify for the free Vista upgrade
-
Why it did not qualify for the VIsta Upgrade? ur is an XPS M1210 right?
-
Because he has media center edition?
I have a question, if you get the upgrade, can you use that upgrade for your desktop pc instead of the laptop? and keep the laptop on xp? -
i think so some modification can be made to the upgrade disc an do what u said.
-
1710 worked for me -
did u get the upgrade disc? Which is ur country?

outlet purchases that were originaly ordered new(not when you ordered it) after the vista program began qualify for the upgrade, those that were "originally" ordered before do not, if you look at the system details page on an outlet system,it will say if it has the vista upgrade
Dell is not fronting the upgrade, its microsofts ball game, and the upgrade hinges on the date your XP COA was issued, and that gets issued when the sysytem is first built, so some outlet machines will have it, while some wont -
I think it ill be better after some time - mid february...!!!

No discs yet, the site says at the final step of ordering that the discs won't start shipping until at least feb, and goes on to say 'make sure your credit card does not expire until AFTER April 30, 2007', which I assume is the end-date for that company's deal with dell to handle upgrade duties.

Sorry for going off topic, I am just wondering how this Vista upgrade process work.
When you register with www.dellvistaupgrade.com do you get a Vista product Key ? What type of a DVD will DELL send you ? Will it only be an Upgrade Disk or will you be able to do a fresh install using that ? -
Ya, how is that. i have the same question as Phoenix

From what I've read, all vista dvd's will be the same, and contain every version, your product key will determine what version you wind up installing
So far I've been able to do a clean install with all microsoft OS upgrade discs, all you do is boot from the disc, format and all that jazz, then when the installation begins, it asks you to insert the disc for the product you are upgrading, it reads it, then you continue the install process, vista might be a different story, but I highly doubt it -
What is that Dell Uprade Assistant DVD?

I have been trying for days to get the Vista upgrade. The site kept saying "not eligible". Having just purchased the system from Dell directly last week, clearly this information was wrong. Customer support said the site was experiencing problems and to check back in 2-3 days. Today the site appears to be down completely.

If its a refurb system, look up your service tag, if a date shows up that it was originally issued before the program, your out of luck. The good news would be that your still in the timeframe where you can esily exchange it for one that is eligible. If it is a NEW qualifying purchase, and is stated on the invoice, just call dell about it, it could be as simple as them being behind in updating the server. They have their hands really full right now with the launch in full swing, I'd say the vista upgrade site will be overloaded for the next several days if not a few weeks. -
The site said earlier today when it was working, that New purchases may take up to 2 weeks to be entered into the system. So if it says you are not eligible and you believe you should be, just wait a couple weeks.
-
I have tried my new dell and it is not letting me register for the new Dell Vista upgrade either
-
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1501 MCE Laptop in November. I got a free upgrade to vista as well. I tried today to redeem my upgrade on www.dellvistaupgrade.com and i receive a message service not available.
*hah, this is pretty funny, as I was typing this message, I went to look at the site to describe my problem more deeply, and it worked! and I didn't even refresh the page. Anyways, maybe you just have to give it a minute, but I assume it just started working again -
My system is eligible, but I just gotta wait for it to arrive now. The site is really slow lately.
-
I'm back, I was just going through the Agreement and my page refreshed automatically and I got that same "Service Not Available" message. Grrrrr....
-
I think the website is down so I can't access it,I bought my e1505 in November around thanksgiving.

They have a message now saying the site will be down till 4am gmt thursday feb 1'st. Just be patient guys. I want my copy now too, but it will probably be ahwile, this is a massive operation they are undertaking, its not gonna be a walk in the park, the dust from the intial launch sould settle in a week or two.

Hi
I've received my M90 laptop just after Christmas and have been trying on the update website several times.
Every time I try I'm being told that my system doesn't qualify for the upgrade and should I think this was an error I should contact the oh so beloved Dell support.
Have done that the second time now and even have a case number for the first try, the email answer to the second one I'm still waiting for.
Have researched this for the last few days and it seems to be widespread problem so I don't expect too much help from Dell on this one, maybe I should just return it and see how they react, haha.
Good luck folks -
dell is very bad in support in middle east area!

Dell dropping the ball yet again.... Going to buy Vista Ultimate OEM from the cheapest place I can find and just sell the "Express" upgrade disk when I get it on Ebay or something.
-
You would think with months to prepare you could design a system to handle the obvious incoming rush of orders. Dell really handles some things in the dumbest ways. I spoke to a customer service rep who told me my order didn't go through, and to try again, then the next day I check the order status again and see that it is now pending. This was before the outstanding page crashed of course. Maybe Mikey Dell could hire a few people from this site to overhaul his customer service, considering it is easier to get free service from here than from the company you give thousands of dollars to
-
I knew I was making a mistake by giving Dell more money for another computer. From what I have been reading today, looks like Dell is not planning on sending out the upgrades for another 6-8 weeks. I just got my new laptop 2 weeks ago and now thinking about sending it back and buying another brand with Vista already loaded.
-
Just got my laptop today, wheee.Never used a laptop before though, takes a bit of getting used to.Like just now when I signed up for my Vista upgrade(system built Nov. 06 so OK).When I selected 'billing address same as' and then it auto-refreshes somehow a US state got selected.Hopefully our UK postmen can still work out my address with a US state prefix to my postcode(where is FN anyway?).
-
Does anybody has a status different than "Pending" when checking the order status for the Dell Vista Upgrade? Thanks!
-
well all i know is the site has been down for 2 days LOL Maybe their server was running Vista and crashed LOL
-
-
I just tried it and I get the message please come back later in many languages
-
i dont have any luck......
-
Pending....going to say pending until the Spring most likely.
-
Still down. That's Dell for you. Unable to deliver the goods on time. Par for the course in my opinion. Should have expected it. How many months did Dell have to prepare for it? LAME
-
Thanks!
